TORRANCE, California — A trio of 2013 Toyota Avalons, including a modified version of the new Avalon Hybrid, will debut at the 2012 SEMA Show. The Avalon, Toyota's flagship sedan, hasn't always been a logical choice for the aftermarket show, but it's clear that the redesign inspired the automaker to jump into the deep end of the customization pool.
Dub magazine got a new 2013 Toyota Avalon and fully DUB-ified it with plenty of over-the-top mods for the 2012 SEMA Show.
The signature look starts with a set of 22-inch TIS wheels in matte black wrapped in low-profile Pirelli tires. DUB added a custom body kit, mesh grille, tinted taillights and windows, de-chromed exterior trim and a lowering kit, and finishes the exterior off with a custom "Brilliant Black" paint.
Modifications continue inside, where black leather seats with diamond pattern ultra-suede replace the stock buckets. Black ultra-suede was also applied to the console, door panels and headliner. The magazine rounds out the interior with a bass-heavy JBL sound system that includes a custom fiberglass setup for the three subwoofers placed in the trunk.
The 2013 Toyota Avalon HV Edition is based on the new Avalon Hybrid.
"Bright white primary and electric blue accent colors outside speak to ambitions for a cleaner environment," said Toyota in a statement.
The concept car gets "hybrid-blue headlights, taillights and turn signals, plus a color-keyed custom grille," it added.
The color theme is carried into the cabin, which features blue-silver metallic leather seats.
The HV Edition gets a sporty suspension, unique 19-inch wheels, and a brake-and-tire package that boosts responsive handling.
The 2013 Toyota Avalon TRD Edition concept adds a supercharger, a spring/shock package that lowers the car about an inch and custom 19-inch wheels. Exterior changes include a two-tone custom paint job, color-keyed grille and tinted taillights. The car was created by Toyota Racing Development.
The cabin of the Avalon TRD Edition gets what Toyota calls a "major interior upgrade" with perforated leather seating and a JBL GreenEdge surround-sound audio system with 15 speakers and two trunk-mounted amplifiers.
Edmunds says: To be able to say trunk-mounted amplifiers and Toyota Avalon in the same sentence just confirms that the big Toyota sedan is set to show its wild side at SEMA.
