PARIS — Convertible lovers can add a new model to their wish list — the Audi RS 5 Cabriolet. Audi removed the RS 5 Coupe's fixed metal roof and replaced it with a motorized fabric top to create the RS 5 Cabriolet. The RS 5 Cabriolet's debut at the 2012 Paris Auto Show today was no surprise, but it does look good in the metal. Officials from Audi USA confirmed this afternoon that the cabriolet will be sold in the States starting in the first quarter of next year.
Little is changed from the coupe in the transformation to open-air drop top. The same 450-horsepower direct-injected 4.2-liter normally aspirated V8 and seven-speed dual-clutch gearbox is found underhood.
Curb weight of the Audi RS 5 Cabriolet is 4,234 pounds, some 226 pounds heavier than what Audi claims for the coupe. The convertible top will be offered in four colors (black, gray, brown or red), and Audi drive select is standard equipment.
Edmunds says: Chopping the roof off hasn't done the curb weight any favors, but fans of open-air driving probably won't care much. Sounds great, looks great.
