SEOUL, South Korea — Kia has taken the wraps off an edgier 2012 Picanto in advance of the car's European debut at the 2011 Geneva Auto Show. But Kia Motors America confirms that there are still no plans to bring the Picanto to the U.S. market.
The redesigned Picanto, which is sold in the Korean domestic market as the Kia Morning, is said to have a "bolder, more mature and more self-confident look," according to a statement by Kia. It gets more angular headlights, a jutting jawline, broader shoulders and a sleeker side profile. Kia said the Picanto has "grown in overall length and wheelbase," but has not released technical specifications.
The next-generation version of the car will be offered globally as a five-door hatchback, as well as a sporty three-door body style for the U.K. and European markets.
The redesigned Picanto will get four new powertrains in 1.0- and 1.2-liter displacements. LPG, bi-fuel and flex-fuel variations will be available. But Kia did not provide any other details on the engines or product launch timetable.
