FRANKFURT, Germany — The Ford S-Max Concept, a preview of the automaker's next-generation S-Max European van, will be unveiled at the 2013 Frankfurt Auto Show.

The concept puts a premium on high style and wellness, with such features as a seat that can monitor a driver's heart rate and a glucose monitor that could warn parents if a sleeping child in the rear seats suffers a diabetic episode.

The S-Max is not expected to be part of Ford's U.S. lineup. Ford did not outline its plan for a European launch of the redesigned S-Max.

The S-Max Concept, which seats between four and seven passengers, is basically an evolution of the current model's look. The styling has been tweaked with such elements as creases along the sides, hood strakes and a windshield that extends well into the roof.

The cabin gets an unusual dual-view display that lets the driver and the front passenger look at the same screen but view different things. The driver gets "important information without being distracted, while the front passenger can enjoy a movie at the same time," said Ford. It is expected that this technology will show up on Ford's U.S. products at some point.

The concept is equipped with the 1.5-liter EcoBoost four-cylinder engine.

Edmunds says: This would be the perfect van for stylish moms and dads in the U.S. If Ford made a case for bringing the C-Max here, couldn't the same argument be made for the redesigned S-Max?
