Audi of America said the luxury cars, which feature largely evolutionary changes, will go on sale here next summer or in early fall. The 2015 A8 models include a TFSI Quattro, TDI and Hybrid.
U.S. pricing has not been announced. The 2014 Audi A8 3.0T starts at $75,995, including an $895 destination charge.
Audi AG said the new A8 will start at the U.S. equivalent of $99,541 when it goes on sale in Germany in November.
In the German market, LED headlights are standard in all models with a V8 engine. The A8 also features optional headlights with Matrix LED technology that's said to take the high-beam function to a more precise level and provide greater safety.
Mark Dahncke, an Audi of America spokesman, said the Matrix LED headlights will not be available in the U.S. Federal safety regulators have not yet approved the technology.
The A8 gets a more sculpted hood, a revised grille and bumper and a new trunk layout designed for easier loading.
The redesigned A8 and S8 put a premium on fuel-consumption reductions, according to Audi, although the EPA has not yet announced official fuel economy numbers on either. The base 2014 Audi A8 3.0T returns 18 mpg in city driving and 28 mpg on the highway, according to the EPA.
Dahncke said the base 2015 Audi A8, A8 L W12, TDI and S8 get carryover engines.
An eight-speed Tiptronic transmission is standard in the 2015 A8.
In Europe, the new A8 also is being offered with a 4.2 TDI diesel engine rated at 380 horsepower. Dahncke said the U.S. will not get that engine.
New optional assistance systems in the 2015 A8 include active lane assist, which makes slight steering adjustments "when necessary" and a park assist system with 360-degree display. A new head-up display projects data in the driver's field of vision on the windshield. The night vision assistant can now also recognize larger animals in addition to pedestrians.
Audi's flagship models face increasingly stiff competition, including the 2014 Mercedes-Benz S-Class, which claims to be among the most sophisticated road cars ever put into series production. The A8 and S8 also target the BMW 7 Series and Hyundai Equus.
Edmunds says: Questions remain about the 2015 Audi A8 and S8, including whether or not they will get price increases.
