CHERRY HILL, New Jersey — Subaru of America, Inc. announced that the 2015 Subaru WRX STI will be officially introduced to the public at the 2014 Detroit Auto Show.

The standard 2015 Subaru WRX was unveiled at the 2013 Los Angeles Auto Show in November. The Impreza has been dropped from the WRX nameplate.

The standard WRX gets a downsized 2.0-liter boxer engine from the 2014 Subaru Forester 2.0XT rated at 268 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque thanks to a twin-scroll turbo and variable valve timing. It also features the brand's first six-speed manual transmission. The 2015 WRX will only be available as a sedan.

The 2015 WRX STI is the performance flagship model, and, although no specs are available yet, the 2014 version produces 305 hp and features a firmer suspension, bigger brakes, some unique exterior features and better seats.

The outgoing 2014 Subaru WRX STI is priced at $35,290 including a $795 shipping fee.

Covers come off the new 2015 Subaru WRX STI on January 14.
