WOODCLIFF LAKE, New Jersey — The updated 2014 BMW Z4 will be part of the BMW offensive at the 2013 Detroit Auto Show.
The 2014 BMW Z4 arrives in the U.S. in the spring. Pricing has not been announced. The base 2013 BMW Z4 sDrive28i starts at $48,245, including an $895 destination charge.
BMW's Z4 targets the Audi TT, Porsche Boxster and Nissan 370Z.
The 2014 BMW Z4 gets a new Hyper Orange design package, along with a full complement of BMW ConnectedDrive features. Exterior changes are relatively modest and include new side indicator lights and a new 18-inch wheel design.
The enhanced ConnectedDrive features include High Beam Assist and Park Distance Control. In navigation-equipped cars, ConnectedDrive Services options allow the use of Internet-based information and entertainment services inside the car. Facebook and Twitter posts can be displayed on the cabin monitor and can be read aloud.
BMW's Hyper Orange design package comes with a black-and-orange treatment for the cabin. It includes black leather seats with contrast stitching in Valencia Orange and an accent stripe on the central section of the backrests and seat cushions. A new exterior paint color, Valencia Orange, can only be ordered with the Hyper Orange package.
Other new exterior colors include Mineral Grey metallic and Glacier Silver metallic.
New interior touches include standard high-gloss black surrounds for the air vents and the iDrive's folding Control Display.
The optional M Sport package bundles an Adaptive M suspension, 18-inch M light-alloy wheels and an M aerodynamics package with large air intakes in the front wing and a rear bumper inlay painted Anthracite metallic. The cabin gets sports seats, an M leather steering wheel, M driver's footrest, M door sill finishers and an anthracite-colored roof liner.
Three BMW TwinPower Turbo engine options will again be available for the U.S., BMW said. The BMW Z4 sDrive28i features the 2.0-liter TwinPower Turbo four-cylinder engine. The Z4 sDrive35i and Z4 sDrive35is both use versions of BMW's 3.0-liter TwinPower Turbo inline-6 engine.
Edmunds says: The 2014 BMW Z4 will be part of the German automaker's significant presence at the 2013 Detroit Auto Show.
