DETROIT — The 2013 Shelby Ford Focus ST was announced at the 2013 Detroit Auto Show. The car boasts performance cues coupled with one of Ford's fuel-efficient EcoBoost engines.

Shelby has yet to tweak the Focus ST's turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine.

The choice by Shelby American to tinker with the Focus ST is a significant one, since this is the first time Ford has placed an EcoBoost engine in a high-performance model.

The entire setup starts at $39,490, including the $14,995 Shelby package and the base price of the Focus ST, including shipping. The base 2013 Ford Focus ST starts at $24,495.

Shelby American said the production run would be limited to 500 cars per year. The brochure for the Shelby Ford Focus ST notes that Shelby performance tune and a carbon-fiber hood will be coming soon.

In the meantime, standard equipment includes a front brake upgrade, Shelby short-throw shifter and a Shelby engine appearance package.

"Shelby performance upgrades in the suspension, brakes, exhaust, wheels and tires turn this popular Ford Focus into a road course dream while still delivering up to 40 mpg," said Shelby American in a statement on its Web site.

Edmunds says: Hard to believe that a Focus buyer is going to be willing to pay $15K for a Shelby package.

Needs to give a Mustang GT a run for its money at that price.

wait a minute, other websites are reporting that shelby tuned the motor to produce 300hp. What gives? Who is right?

Is this going to get the RevoKnuckle front suspension?

Shelbys aren't cheap, but you're paying a premium for the badge. I'd consider a Focus ST, but I certainly wouldn't consider a Shelby Focus ST.

juan that is EXACTLY what i was wondering. I cant imagine it would take much effort for Shelby to put that on there.

Looks awesome - but for an extra $15k, I expect AWD and tweaks to the engine. Suspension, wheels, breaks and tire upgrades don't cut it.
