Hi, So sorry it took so long to get back to you but I was on vacation. If you have not already taken car of your brake bleeding I would suggest going to Erwin.com Audi America. Buy an hours worth of time and get the brake bleeding procedure and diagrams directly from them. You need your VIN Number (Veh.ID) to correctly ID your vehicle. They will have all the diagrams you ... Read More

Hey Chandler661! You must have a really large set of tools to do all that work. Brake bleeding, one might think is an easy thing but, with ABS and ESP traction controls you may need a special bleeder to get all the air out. I don' t have any pic's of front strut assembly but Audi has info on both. You don't sound like your interested in going to the dealer ... Read More

I loved my 2003 Audi A6 - except for the cost of repair. $235.00 for a tire? $700.00 for the driver's side sun visor? I sold it after 4 years. You asked what to look for: A Ford or Chevy.

OK Chandler: Well at least we can say with reasonable certainty what it is not. I did not mention this before but I am not an Electrical Genie. If I take a cable from it's connector I can remember where it was and put it back. As for the "Engine Oil Pressure light" and a related sensor, it could be wired in such a way that when the oil pressure goes ... Read More

Greetings Chandler661! Electrical Gremlins for sure: The singular most difficult problem on any vehicle. 1. That Jekyl even has a voltage meter is highly unusual, but OK if you say so. I'll get back to that in a moment. 1st I'm not familiar with a "Head Unit" is that a Cylinder Head device or something to do with your radio/stereo? To adjust your clock there should be a knob on the left side of the dash (just like the one to reset the trip odo. but on the left) Push in and twist clockwise the clock should start to adjust. As for the brake pad warning light, I believe you need to buy pads that are compatible with the sensor. Google brake pad warning light and you should be able to ... Read More

Yeah you need an owner's manual all right. It might take weeks to google this kind of thing, but only one click to buy a manual! did your (ahem) mechanic replace the brake pad wear sensors? If not, he owes you. You might try: www.helminc.com or eBay

Also do you think it might be possible that maybe the trans fluid and the filter need to be changed I dont when the last time it was changed. Is there a way of testing the fluid or a certain color that it should be. All that I know is that the Hydrolic fluid for these cars is $25 each quart SHIT.

Hi I have a 1996 Audi A6 that I had jut bought and I observed that the transmission fluid (Hydrolic fluid) in the resivore tank is sitting just below the low mark on the tank. As soon as I take off even after letting it warm up for about 10 minutes it still shifts out of first gear in the high RPMS. But then after about driving a block or so ... Read More

Ignition Coils?

I have a 1996 Audi A6. Recently, the Malfunction Indicator Light came on. I brought it down to AutoZone and they did a very basic scan for no charge. The guy told me that it was probably the ignition coils that was triggering the light to come on. He told me to bring it to a mechanic. So far, every mechanic I've talked to wants to charge me about $90 to ... Read More

A6 v 540i

In Illinois (11/21) I received lease quotes for both the A6 4.2 and the 540i. Audi is calling it at 54% residual at 39 months and BMW at 60% at 36 months. I believe BMW may be subsidizing since the model is in its last year of the cycle. The CNN comments apply to the 98 A6 which was the 2.8 derivative, prior to the release of the 2.7T and the ... Audi/VW Platforms

Jared, here's a complete list of Audi platforms from Audi AG. The W8 does ride on a DIFFERENT larger platform than other Passats, the same one used for the A6. I'd forgotten about this until I got a recent issue of Auto Week, noticed the car looked bigger and longer. I discounted it until I looked up this table again, and apparently, it is bigger and longer. The same photo's are ... Read More

I have been sniffing around, trying to find out the anecdotal reliability of some of my friends and associates cars. A6 4.2 Responses

I started ordering Audi cars back when they were still called 4000's, 5000's then 80's, 90's 100's and 200's -- then of course follwed by the "A" cars. Audi cars ordered from a dealer -- in my experience -- will take 4 to 5 months to get from the day you order (and this appears to be based on the "build date vs. order date" difference.) Sometimes the difference between one ... Read More
