The 2025 Volvo EX90 feels like a more modern version of the vehicles Volvo has been making for the last few years. The design and interior comfort are great, and it's more fun to drive than you'd think just by looking at it. But our experiences with software bugs might give you pause before an EX90 purchase.

2025 Volvo EX90 Review
Overview

The all-new 2025 Volvo EX90 is one of the few all-electric SUVs with three rows. It stands out from the crowd thanks to its 300-plus-mile range, standard all-wheel drive, and a wealth of standard safety features and driving aids. Inside, Volvo's spartan design ethos is on display, with a clean and uncluttered dash that integrates most controls into the 14.5-inch touchscreen. While not budget-priced by any means, the EX90 undercuts some luxury rivals by thousands of dollars yet offers similar levels of refinement and performance.
Edmunds spotlight: An interior that stands out by not standing out
For nearly a decade, Volvo's cabin designs have offered stunning interior luxury defined more by what isn't there than what is. The EX90 expands on that ideal. Two screens — a 9-inch horizontal instrument panel for the driver and the larger infotainment touchscreen — act as central design elements. Birchwood trim and Nordico, a bio-based leather-free upholstery, set the EX90 apart in a world where many luxury SUVs rely on stitched leather and polished surfaces. At night, soft ambient LED lighting casts a subtle glow on the EX90's aluminum dash and door accents. It's a distinctly Scandinavian tenor in a world of German rigidity.
Competitors to consider
The EX90 is challenging the top electric three-row SUVs, including Tesla's aging Model X and Rivian's R1S. Both of those SUVs rely on power as a defining party trick in their personality while the EX90 leans more heavily toward the practicality most buyers are after. The Mercedes-Benz EQS SUV offers an optional third row, an excellent tech package and smooth driving, but you'll have to stomach its six-figure starting price.
Which EX90 trim does Edmunds recommend?
The Plus trim has a wealth of standard features that justify its considerable price tag. And the base power output is more than enough oomph to swift away you and your passengers in quiet comfort. Unless you absolutely need every bell and whistle, or whipcrack acceleration, the EX90's standard configuration should suit most buyers.

Volvo EX90 models
The 2025 Volvo EX90 is an all-electric large luxury SUV offered in two trims: the well-equipped Plus and the even more upscale Ultra; both trims can be ordered in seven- and six-seat configurations. Every EX90 is powered by a battery pack with 107 kWh of usable capacity (111-kWh gross capacity), which is EPA-estimated to deliver between 300 and 310 miles of range depending on wheel size.
All EX90s use two motors — one on each axle — to deliver all-wheel drive. Two outputs are available: the Twin Motor powertrain is rated at 402 horsepower and 568 lb-ft of torque, while the Twin Motor Performance powertrain offers 510 hp and 671 lb-ft.
