My second Mystique

1999 Mercury Mystique
I have a 1997 Mystique LS also.
The 1999 version seems to track a bit
better than the 1997. Very secure
handling at all speeds and the 2.5
liter Duratec is very strong and
smooth. I travel a lot at freeway
speeds and average 27-29 mpg which in
my view is pretty spectacular for an
automatic V6 powered sedan.
One caveat.. my car is not very quiet.
Lot's of wind and … road noise. I noticed
that in 1999 Consumer Reports rated the
car as well as the Accord and better
than the Maxima. The negative reported
was under 'integrity' (seals, fit and
finish). In this area the 1997 made in
Mexico is better. Still if you enjoy
driving this is a pretty slick ride.
