2023 Toyota Tacoma TRD Off Road 4dr Double Cab 5.0 ft. SB (3.5L 6cyl 6A)
Bought a new 2023 Tacoma in July of 2023. When I got it home from the dealer, I noticed a smudge on the bottom of the rocker panel. When I rubbed it with a rag the paint came off on the rag. I checked the other side, and it did the same. The paint came off the full length of both rocker panels and the bottom of both front fenders. I took it back to the dealer and the cost to repaint the … truck was $6,760.00, which Toyota agreed to pay. When I contacted Toyota about replacing the truck due to the excessive repairs, they said no, that's what your warranty is for. I wish this was the only issue but it's not. The transmission is constantly slipping. While cruising at lower rpms it will start slipping and jerking. While braking, just before coming to a stop the back of the truck starts bouncing. The truck is hard to keep going straight. I am constantly adjusting the steering wheel. No modern vehicle should feel like this. The white paint stains very easily. I have less than 2000 miles and there are already stains that will not wax out. My gas millage has dropped significantly. When new I was getting around 22 mpg, now it is 18. And last, the radio reception is very, very, bad. You have to be in the city that the radio station is in to get a good reception. I bought this truck because my last Tacoma, a 2007 that I bought new, was amazing. This one has been a huge disappointment and will be my last Toyota after buying four new Toyota's in the past. Update: the transmission slipping turned out to be a bad torque converter. The bouncing while braking was due to both rear drum brakes being warped. Speaking of brakes, while backing out of my garage, the brakes locked up and the truck would not move. It had to be put on a flatbed tow truck to get it to the dealer. They kept it for 11 days but never found the problem. The brakes just released on their own. So far, this truck has spent 29 days at the dealer for various issues, and it still has to have the new torque converter installed. The torque converter is on back order, that should tell you something.
FAQ
How does the 2023 Toyota Tacoma compare to rival midsize trucks?
- Versus the Chevrolet Colorado, the Colorado offers a more powerful V6, an available turbodiesel engine, higher towing capacity, and class-leading payload capacity, but the Tacoma provides more advanced standard driver aids and superior off-road capability. Versus the Nissan Frontier, the Frontier has a more powerful V6 and better ride quality, while the Tacoma compensates with more driver assistance technology, better off-road capability, and a superior interior layout. Versus the Ford Ranger, the Ranger is an aging design brought from other markets and struggles to compete with modern rivals, where the Tacoma generally outperforms it.
What is the towing capacity of the 2023 Toyota Tacoma?
- The 2023 Toyota Tacoma has a maximum towing capacity of 6,800 lbs when equipped with the 3.5L V6 engine. Base four-cylinder configurations are rated at approximately 3,500 lbs. This maximum tow rating lags behind some competitors in the midsize truck class.
