Small sedans are hard to come by these days, but the 2025 Nissan Versa is well built, with lots of space inside and a good package of standard tech and safety features that make its price perfectly reasonable. The Versa's fuel economy is another feather in its cap, although we do wish it had a bit more spring in its step. Still, the Versa's a smart choice for an affordable small sedan.

2025 Nissan Versa Review
Overview

The 2025 Nissan Versa is a great option if you're in the market for a budget-friendly small sedan. The Versa is a subcompact car that provides a pleasant driving experience and fuel economy of up to 35 mpg combined. Performance isn't exactly its forte, but it redeems itself by offering a lot of helpful technology and driver assist features for the money. In addition, the Versa has a fairly roomy cabin for its size. The 2025 Versa is mostly a carryover from last year, with the addition of standard LED headlights for all trims plus two years of free maintenance.
Edmunds spotlight: Undeniable value
The Nissan Versa is offered in three trim levels — S, SV and SR — but no matter which trim you choose, you can expect a good amount of features for an affordable price tag. On the inside, the Versa is furnished with a well-built interior and solid materials. Even though the Versa is small in dimensions, it manages to offer quite a spacious cabin that leaves little room for complaint. To top it off, the Versa is fuel-efficient. All in all, Nissan's smallest sedan is a fantastic pick if you're shopping for an inexpensive sedan.
Competitors to consider
In 2025, the Versa is nearly in a class all by itself. Most other automakers have given up making affordable subcompact sedans. Currently, there's only one true alternative to the Versa: the Mitsubishi Mirage. Although a little higher in price, the Hyundai Venue and Kia Soul are subcompact SUVs that should also be considered. If you're still on the fence about the Versa, our test team's thorough review in the Expert Rating below should help you decide.
Which Versa does Edmunds recommend?
We think the SV trim is the best pick for the 2025 Versa because it offers the most value. While inexpensive, the base S model is also sparsely equipped. The SV's added features are worth the price bump and include alloy wheels instead of steel wheels with plastic hubcaps, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto smartphone connectivity, a wireless smartphone charging pad, and blind-spot warning with rear cross-traffic warning.

2020 Nissan Versa S 4dr Sedan (1.6L 4cyl 5M)
Car performs well and gas mileage is great 33 city, 41 hwy. But the alternator was only producing 12.4 volts and needed to be replaced. The car had only 40,000 miles on it. It turns out that the alternator for the S model can only be purchased at Nissan, and it costs $860 and comes with only a one year warranty.

2020 Nissan Versa SR 4dr Sedan (1.6L 4cyl CVT)
I researched this car to death before I bought it. I got the SR fully loaded. Love the technology of Android Audio, blind spot, and sensors. Gives a very nimble ride. Get 41 mpg when drive 70-75 mph. Get 50 mpg when drive 60 mph. Seats very comfortable. Very nice sound system. This car is the best deal out there.
Fun, zippy, gas saver!

2020 Nissan Versa S 4dr Sedan (1.6L 4cyl 5M)
I am a car guy, and the Versa is not really know for being for us car guys/gals. BUT, this car is very fun!
The interior and exterior styling looks awesome, and is easy to clean/wash. Truck space is huge, and space is plentiful.
I have the 5-speed with the 1.6 liter engine (HR16DE). Contrary to what others say, it accelerates nicely, and I am currently getting 45 mpg (empty car, … highway miles).
The only complaint I have is I feel there should have been a 6-speed transmission. The engine screams at 3,500RPM @ 70mph.
As for reliability, it has not given me any issues. I'll come back in a few years and let you know...
UPDATE: The infotainment (which is also the radio) is very picky with what devices to use, if you have an iPhone, good luck.
Also, the rev-hang got so bad for me with the 5-speed, I ended up trading it in. It started to annoy me and did not fit my lifestyle. I would still keep it at a 5-star though, as that is just personal complaints, not really about the car though.
