Easily the best vehicle I've owned
The Ferret, 01/25/2025
2024 GMC Sierra EV Denali Edition 1 4dr Crew Cab 4WD SB (electric DD)
And I've quite literally had them all. Every EV from Hyundai, Ford, Tesla, Rivian, Audi, etc. With plenty of gas/diesel powered vehicles in there. And lots of trucks. I've got a good amount of experience with vehicles and I have to say, this Sierra EV Denali is easily the best combination of full-size truck practicality, comfort, technology, range, and charging speed.
The air … suspension does a great job of managing rough roads, despite these massive 24" wheels on 35" tall tires. The interior is relatively quiet, road and wind noise are well suppressed. The seats have real leather, which feel and smell great. They are better than current gas trucks, but could have more padding, and massage would be nice at this price point.
I also can't stress the usefulness of rear-wheel steering. While it may sound like a gimmick, it makes parking and maneuvering in tight space a non-issue. It even helps on curvy roads or even slicing through traffic. Basically, it feels like a mid-size truck. Or smaller. It has a tighter turning radius than my R1T.
Real-world range is around 380 miles on a full charge (EPA est 440). And that's driving at TX highway speeds around 80mph. When you do need to charge, lots of EA and EVgo stations around here have no problem holding around 350kW until you get closer to 80%. Basically, I can treat this as I do my ICE trucks. Even in colder weather, which only has a minor impact to range. The heat pump and overall EV engineering are solid. Just decide where I want to stop for restroom and food breaks that happen to have EV charging. You can even use most Tesla stations if you don't mind a bit longer wait to charge.
The infotainment system is pretty good. It's all Google-based, Google maps, much like using an Android phone. I'd still like to see more features added for EV navigation and home screen customization, but it's been super accurate on road trips with calculating range and EV stops.
However, no vehicle is perfect. There are still the usual signs of GM build quality, such as rattles here and there. Which the GMC dealer has been addressing. On the plus side, material quality is much improved as evidence with no creaking. There is no spare tire, just a fix-a-flat kit. And they absolutely need to include a shade for the huge pano roof. While it does a surprisingly good job of blocking heat, sometimes I just don't want the sun in my face. And torque steer at WOT needs to be addressed. Fortunately, I rarely need to do that. It has ample power for passing and merging without even pushing it past 50%.
Overall, I've been extremely please with the Sierra EV Denali Edition 1. It looks fantastic, it's way easier to park than any other full-size vehicle, Google tech good enough that I don't miss Android Auto or Carplay, and I can forget about range anxiety. They aren't cheap, but there are some good deals if you shop around. It might be more affordable than you think. Especially when you consider the 205kW battery pack alone would be more than double the cost of the vehicle.
