2026 Honda CR-V Review
Overview

The 2026 Honda CR-V is among America's most popular small SUVs. Conveniently, it's also one of our test team's top recommendations. You'll likely be pleased if you drive one. The CR-V is easy to drive, comfortable and roomy. It also gets impressive fuel economy of up to 40 mpg if you pick a CR-V with its available hybrid powertrain. The 2026 CR-V is largely unchanged from last year, though it does get a few more standard features and a new trim level called the TrailSport.
Edmunds spotlight: TrailSport is mostly about style, not substance
For 2026, the CR-V now comes in a new TrailSport trim level. The TrailSport adopts a more rugged, off-roady look thanks to revised front-end styling, gray-painted wheels and black exterior accents. It also has all-terrain tires that can potentially provide more traction on loose surfaces. But with the exception of those tires, the TrailSport doesn't offer any additional trail-ready features or attitude. It doesn't get more ground clearance, for example, which is something that comes on the Wilderness version of the Subaru Forester. Sure, the TrailSport looks cooler than a regular CR-V. Just don't venture too far off the paved path.
Competitors to consider
Check out the Mazda CX-50. It's a little more fun to drive than the CR-V, especially when equipped with its available turbocharged engine. It also has a classier-looking interior. We're also keen on the Kia Sportage and Hyundai Tucson. Both are roomy and provide loads of value. Finally, there's the redesigned 2026 Toyota RAV4. It has fresh styling, big new touchscreens and standard hybrid power for great mpg.
Which CR-V does Edmunds recommend?
For the money, it's hard to beat the EX-L. It's priced about halfway between the base trim and the top Sport Touring Hybrid, but it comes with plenty of daily comforts and conveniences such as a power liftgate, leather upholstery, power-adjustable seats and an upgraded sound system. If you want a hybrid version of the CR-V for its better mpg, check out the Sport-L. It has many of the EX-L's features.

Honda CR-V models
The 2026 Honda CR-V is available in seven trim levels: LX, EX, EX-L, Sport Hybrid, TrailSport Hybrid, Sport-L Hybrid and Sport Touring Hybrid. The LX, EX and EX-L trims come with a turbocharged four-cylinder engine, while the remaining trims use a four-cylinder hybrid powertrain for increased fuel economy. Most CR-V trims come with standard front-wheel drive and optional all-wheel drive. The TrailSport and Sport Touring trims come with standard all-wheel drive.
LX
The base trim CR-V kicks off the lineup with:
- Turbocharged 1.5-liter four-cylinder engine (190 horsepower, 179 lb-ft of torque)
- Continuously variable transmission
- 17-inch wheels
- Push-button start
- LED headlights
- 9-inch touchscreen
- Wireless connectivity for Apple CarPlay and Android Auto smartphone integration
- Wireless phone charger
- Four-speaker sound system
Standard driver assist features include:
- Forward collision warning with automatic braking (warns you of an impending collision and applies the brakes in certain scenarios)
- Lane keeping assistance (steers the CR-V back into its lane if it begins to drift over the lane marker)
- Adaptive cruise control (maintains a driver-set distance between the vehicle and the car in front)
EX
Builds on the LX with:
- 18-inch wheels
- Sunroof
- Heated side mirrors
- Dual-zone climate control
- Heated front seats
- Power-adjustable driver's seat
- Six-speaker sound system
- Dual rear USB ports
- Blind-spot warning with rear cross-traffic warning (alerts you if a vehicle is in your blind spot during a lane change or while in reverse)
EX-L
This is the best-equipped, turbo-powered CR-V. In addition to the EX features, it comes with:
- Power liftgate
- Leather upholstery
- Power-adjustable front passenger seat
- Driver's seat memory settings
- Digital instrument display
- Eight-speaker sound system
- Front and rear parking sensors
Sport Hybrid
The most affordable way to get into a hybrid-powered CR-V. It's equipped like the EX but adds:
- Hybrid powertrain with 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine (204 hp, 247 lb-ft)
- Roof rails
- Sport appearance package with darkened exterior elements

- 18-inch wheels with all-terrain tires
- Power liftgate
- Heated steering wheel
- Eight-speaker sound system
Sport Touring Hybrid
The fully loaded Sport Touring trim blends EX-L features with all-wheel drive and the hybrid powertrain. Other features include:
- 19-inch gloss black wheels
- Hands-free liftgate
- Google Built-In (includes Google Maps and other Google-based services)
- Heated steering wheel
- 12-speaker Bose premium audio system

2025 Honda CR-V Sport-L Hybrid 4dr SUV (2.0L 4cyl gas/electric hybrid EVT)
I’ve had my 2025 CRV Hybrid Sport-L for a few months and about 1,500 miles. Average MPG is 42.1 with 30% highway driving. We love the leather seats, moonroof, comfortable interior, and how it drives flawlessly. I’m impressed with how many feature are included at this price. I’ve driven Luxus’ and Acura’s of family members and see no difference in quality or comfort. I highly recommend … this vehicle and have no complaints.
Improving, almost there...

2025 Honda CR-V Sport Touring Hybrid 4dr SUV AWD (2.0L 4cyl gas/electric hybrid EVT)
This is my 2nd consecutive CR-V. Coming out of a 2022 EX-L. Love the hybrid powertrain . Went for the sport touring over the sport-L as it's only $1500 more one you add AWD to the sport-L (standard AWD in sport touring). Getting 38.2 mpg in mixed driving. Plenty of space for a small SUV
Other things I like are updated carplay and android auto (both wireless) as well as lane keep assist/ … traffic jam assist systems and Bose audio system (I always disconnect the anc module in Hondas, they are pointless in my opinion). Very quiet and smooth ride. I opted for the grey interior which is 2 tone and glad I did. Looks very sharp. Things I don't like are the front seat shape (side bolsters very high and less comfortable then previous generation) as well an the removal of items making them dealer options that came standard even in the EX-L trim (rear cargo cover, homelink) but all manufacturers heading this route to save/make more money out of every sale. Overall I really like my CR-V even though it's a little on the pricey side. I think you will be hard pressed to find a better small SUV.
Overall great. But Chronic Tech Issues

2025 Honda CR-V Sport-L Hybrid 4dr SUV AWD (2.0L 4cyl gas/electric hybrid EVT)
This is our third Honda CRV (2018, 2021, 2025). High quality construction, rides great. Just a solid vehicle. No other small SUV is put together this well. One big issue and one small issue. Very frustrated with my 2025 Sport-L entertainment system and Apple CarPlay. The gauge audio display setting (in front of the steering wheel) gets stuck and does not show what’s playing in … CarPlay. C’mon Honda - there are 1.6 billion iPhone users in the world. Please figure this out. We had similar problems in our 2021 CRV. It works fine in our Nissan. This is not an iPhone issue. It’s a Honda issue. The other is just front cabin storage. Cup holders and bin space seems to be reduced. And the little tray in the arm rest was not included (I purchased that separately online). Again, C’mon Honda! The CRV would be the best SUV in the market if the recorded better and they included some low-cost basics.
Quality feel with lots of MPG

2025 Honda CR-V Sport Hybrid 4dr SUV (2.0L 4cyl gas/electric hybrid EVT)
My first hybrid. Love that the battery is NOT paired with a turbo. Who wants a turbo to turn on and off as needed? Doesn't match their characteristics.
Like it is standard with blind spot warning, etc. Quiet ride. Good power. Excellent mpg (averaging 38 combined Hwy city).
Compared to a RAV4 and it looks nicer, inside and out, feels more substantial and has more room. It was also … hard to get a RAV4.
Cons: Wish it had a spare tire. Cost more than the RAV4 and can't set without a moon roof.
