2025 Ford Expedition Review
Overview

Ford has overhauled its largest and most expensive SUV for 2025. As has long been the case, the Expedition is a great choice for families needing room for more than five passengers, a large cargo area, and for some, a high towing capacity. This three-row SUV is thirsty and can be cumbersome to drive around town, but its size and strength provide a lot of utility. Highlights for the new 2025 Expedition include subtle styling revisions, many new technology features and a new Tremor trim level.
Edmunds spotlight: Everything that's new for 2025
The Expedition's updated exterior styling isn't a huge departure from the previous model, but it looks more modern and refined than before. Fortunately, a lot changed inside. The new Expedition boasts a completely redesigned and significantly better-looking interior. Leading the way are dual displays that consist of a 13.2-inch center touchscreen and a huge 24-inch driver's display that sits on top of the dashboard. They display Ford's latest infotainment system that features Google Play (allows you to download various apps), Google Assistant and Google Maps for navigation. A new split tailgate is another change. The top three-quarters raises like a traditional tailgate, and the bottom quarter folds down like a mini truck tailgate that's strong enough to sit on. There's also a new rugged Expedition Tremor version that sports several off-road upgrades.
Competitors to consider
Many of the Ford Expedition's rivals are also updated for 2025. General Motors' SUVs, which include the Chevrolet Tahoe and Suburban, and the GMC Yukon and Yukon XL, are all refreshed for 2025 and are solid choices for large SUVs. The regular Expedition competes with the Tahoe and Yukon, while the longer Expedition Max is up against the Suburban and Yukon XL. Like the Expedition, the Nissan Armada was also completely redesigned for 2025. It's notably better than the outgoing model and is worth a look. Other options include the hybrid-only Toyota Sequoia or the updated Explorer if you want a smaller three-row Ford SUV.
Which Expedition does Edmunds recommend?
Even though the midlevel Platinum trim is markedly more expensive than the base Active trim, it's the way to go because the long list of extra features is worth the premium. Plus, you can option the Platinum with the high-output engine and with more packages than any other trim level. The 22-speaker B&O audio system and adaptive suspension in the Driver's package are worthy upgrades.

Hard pass - not in Wagoneer’s league

2025 Ford Expedition Active 4dr SUV 4WD (3.5L 6cyl Turbo 10A)
I rented the Expedition for a trip from Chicago to Columbus. I’ve rented the Wagoneer for the same trip before several times. There is no comparison. The Ford is full of plastic inside, the dash design is terrible, seats are uncomfortable and not as spacious as the Wagoneer which is far more luxurious. What’s more the ride and performance of the Expedition are terrible. The Wagoneer has … a much plusher ride and far better acceleration. And the Expedition is painful to look at, particularly the tail.
