Cavender Toyota
Dealership Sales Review
Went to Cavender because 1) close to home 2) needed a car fast, and 3) my wife knows a salesperson there. 1} Close to home is good. Cavender's service dept is open until midnight during the week and open on Saturdays. That is great for those of us to work. Hope I don't need to see them for anything besides oil changes. 2) It's never good to buy a car fast. Although there were generous end of the year rebates, the dealer puffed up the price with all kinds of add ons and was unwilling to lower the price. Perhaps if I walked on on the deal, I would have gotten some concessions, but that was not a good option for me at the time. 3) There are no friends in the car business - lol!! My wife's friend made the deal a bit more tolerable, but we still had to put up with the confusing pricing, changing numbers, mystical manager decisions, long waits, etc. When we got to the finace department, the finance guy tried to slip an extended warranty and insurance plan into the financing without even asking us if we wanted it. Instead, he told us the monthly payment and quickly said "that includes your extended warranty and gap plan" as if we had made those descisions and should be happy with them. When I called him on that he gave me this look of surprise and asked why in the world I wound not want these products. When I explained that we had just listed to a salepitch that focused on the reliability record of Toyota, and I was so convinced that I felt comfortable doing without the ex warranty, the guy just stared blankly. So buying a car from Cavendar is no different from most dealerships. They are not in business to do you favors. You've got to watch for your interests. Cavender will take you for all they can.
