Van Hyundai
Dealership Sales Review
My initial experience with this dealership was via email, then by phone and the first 2 people were determined to sell me on a more expensive Sonata...trying to tell me I can get a 2009 Sonata for the same amount as I'm looking at spending on an Elantra SE and the Sonata has the same features as base package. This is a LIE. Do your homework on Hyundai's site as well as Edmunds.com and ConsumerReports.org (requires a well worth-it annual membership). We decided to go in and look around and promptly spent 3 hours at this dealership and came away with an awful feeling of, "Same old song and dance." The sales lady was nice enough and although I certainly felt the typical pressure to "sign up now" she was not unusually bad. However, when it came time to "Just talk numbers" with their so-called finance manager, this was a different story. This guy was one of the fastest-talking Texan's I've ever met. Either he was in a massive hurry or he was just real good at fast-talking details that are necessary for the customer to know. He tried to persuade us that our credit score was too bad to get a good interest rate so he attempted to sell us on 11.9%. This was an insult and pathetic so I said, "No". When I told him I'd be happy with more like 6.9 he disappears and reappears a few minutes later with paperwork all filled out with me at 7.9%. When I asked him how we suddenly qualified for 7.9 when before we only qualified for 11.9 he gave me a story about his GM being willing to "buy up" the difference. After several more emphatic, "NO's" (they never accept "No" at face value) I walked out. I asked the sales lady on my way out, "Had I signed up at 11.9, who would have gotten the difference between the 7.9 and the 11.9??" She tried to dodge and say she doesn't work with the numbers at all so doesn't know the answer to this. I did not believe her, either, and told her that while I can tolerate a lot of things, I have almost zero tolerance for what I considered to be, lying. I am not saying they lied - just that I believed they did. I know our credit history and scores and will find out later today from our own bank just what our scores really do qualify us for.
