Not a Star

NEVER BUY A CAR HERE! I bought a used car 2/21 with a ‘lifetime powertrain warranty.’ Needed engine repairs for coolant leaks 9/21 & that’s when I found out the car had a coolant problem when Star got it, which they never disclosed. They gave the wrong name and contact numbers for the 'warranty company' 5x, and every time we called, the companies denied there was a warranty on my VIN. Star then claimed they had confirmed the warranty. I got on the phone with Star’s service rep who ‘confirmed the warranty’, we called the warranty company, and they said no warranty existed. Star then denied there was any warranty, their General Manager said it was a ‘service’ they provided to customers. Their website says a lifetime powertrain warranty is included with the purchase of every car. After a week of runaround from Star I was forced to repair the car without the warranty I bought with my car purchase. It cost me $2400+12 days car rental (over $600). The day of pickup Star’s owner called the repair GMC garage & said the warranty company would pay for the radiator – but not the water pump, oil system, or anything else. He still did not provide contact information for the warranty company. The water pump & oil system are usually part of a powertrain warranty – and the GMC dealership doing the repair told me that would probably be what the warranty would cover. To this day, no one from the warranty company, if it even exists, has contacted me. The cost for the radiator repair the warranty company would pay was $500 – which would mean using aftermarket low cost parts. You can’t use those under this warranty because work has to be done at Star or at GMC dealerships which won’t use those parts. Basically, Star uses a warranty to get you to buy a car (that was the reason I bought this car) that doesn’t seem to cover anything a real warranty would cover. Oh, and Star’s answer to this was that they offered to sell me an extended warranty (for $3,000). I don’t even believe there is a warranty now - why else would their two warranty providers deny I had a warranty 5 times? If I had not believed there was a warranty, I could have had it fixed for a lower cost at a local garage and the work would have been done two days after the problem arose. I would have saved over $1,000. AGAIN, NEVER BUY A CAR AT STAR BUICK GMC.
