Dealership Sales Review
Let me preface this so that you read the whole thing with the statement that this has been the best car shopping experience ever. I wish all car salesman were like this. I have done quite a bit of shopping around over the past few months, and a year prior to this purchase. In total at least 20 different dealerships worth of shopping, none of which were as pain free as my experience at this dealership. When I came in the first time and explained that I wanted to test drive the Golf 2.5, Golf TDI, and the GTI Chris Davis made the standard copy of my license, and then sent me out with all three cars in rapid order. Which in the first case was stunning, because I was 23 at the time and had a scruffy beard, and other dealerships had treated me like a delinquent, some even going so far as to ask for a credit check before letting me drive a car. And half the time they also insisted on riding along, as if I would put the car in a ditch since with my scruffy beard I must be an irresponsible driver. Once I returned from my triple test drive, and I say this as the highest compliment of all, and with a boatload of test driving experience to back me up, he did the best thing possible. He didn't try to sell me the car. What I mean by that is that he gave me his card, he asked if there was anything I wanted to know about the vehicles, answered a few questions I had, and then he let me go. He did not try any high pressure sales techniques. None of the, "It's the last one on the lot" "They're selling like hotcakes" "You should put a deposit down or you'll lose it" etc. He called a few days later to check and see where I was, and then he let me be. Literally ever other dealership has called me weekly for a period as long as 2 months after I test drove a vehicle. When I came in again this year, I specifically asked for Chris, which should impress you since I actually remembered a car salesman's name for a year, and that isn't normal. I looked at the GTI again, and when I commented of the lack of trunk space to accommodate skis, his immediate response was that I should look at the GLI. He was right. And, as soon as I asked for a test drive he got my information, and then sent me out to enjoy it. I came back impressed, asked my questions, and then he let me go, once again with no high pressure salesmanship, and I got the one call from him again, just to check up on me through the month it took for me to get to a point of purchase. When I finally was in a position to purchase the GLI, having spent the better part of a month ready to make the purchase, he was ready and willing and even then there was no pressure. The delay was due to insurance issues with my last car resulting from an accident in which I was not at fault. The actual process of paperwork and purchasing the GLI was quite painless and quick. And, thankfully, very well explained and helpful. There was no rushing through any confusion, and all my questions were answered very well. In conclusion, VW has an excellent car in the GLI. But half of the reason I purchased this car was the stellar salesmanship of Chris Davis. In all my car shopping he was the only salesman who didn't make the process feel like an ordeal or a fight, and I hope this review gets passed up whatever channels it takes for this to become a more standard approach to the trade.
