Dealership Sales Review
My wife and I purchased a 2020 Kona Ultimate from Johnson Hyundai in Cary, NC, and all of the people that we met at Johnson Hyundai were friendly, courteous, and made us feel comfortable. I first communicated online with one person from the dealership, but when my wife and I actually went to the dealership, we ended up dealing with a different person, which I thought was a little unusual. However, it was not a problem and the sales process went smoothly. The only thing that my wife and I felt could have been handled differently was something that happened when we had the conversation with the finance person. We were suddenly faced with additional offers of maintenance plans, road hazard plans, GAP insurance, etc. Both of us felt that these options could have been mentioned much earlier in the process, perhaps even as early as when going online to configure a sample car (MINI does this in their car configuring process), so that it would have been less of a pressure situation to make a decision and to have time to look into the different plans and compare the cost of the plans vs. their actual value. In all fairness, the finance person did step out of his office to allow my wife and I to talk in private but it was not enough time for us to make a decision right there, so we asked for a little more time, which we received. Then, after researching the subject of maintenance plans, etc., at home, we came to the conclusion that more often than not these plans are not a good value for the money that is spent, so we opted to not getting them. Our overall experience in the car buying process was positive, except for the awkward timing of the presentation of the maintenance and other plans, which could have been done earlier in the process, for this reason I am giving four out of five stars. I would definitely recommend this dealership to my friends and family with the "heads up" that they will be offered maintenance and other plans to add to the financing of the car, at a time that may not be convenient for them. I would advise them to inform themselves about these plans before going to the dealership so that they can avoid a situation where they may feel pressured to make a decision that they otherwise would not make.
