Riverhead Hyundai
Dealership Sales Review
In response to my Internet request for a quote on a new 2010 Tucson, Carol Glass sent me several emails offering $3000 off the MSRP of any new or used vehicle. She then called me on the telephone asking if I could come in to discuss a possible purchase. When I told her specifically what vehicle features I wanted she said that they didn't have one, but would check for availability from another dealer and call me back. She called back a short time later, stating that they had found 3 vehicles at other dealers meeting my requirements, and repeated the $3000 off promotion. I immediately drove to Riverhead Hyundai, checkbook in hand, to make my purchase. When I arrived Carol said she couldn't understand the coding of the sales sheet and turned me over to "Ron", another salesman. Ron left me waiting at his desk for 10 or 15 minutes while he looked for "guest sheets" and invoices, and chatted with his sales manager. When he finally returned he said that my Tucson was available at FULL RETAIL price only. When I asked about Carol's promotion he started a long story about short supply, trucking expenses from the other dealer, etc. When I went back to Carol's office to ask about the promotion she had offered, she was all apologies over the "misunderstanding", claiming that the promotion was for any car EXCEPT the Tucson. When I calmly expressed my frustration at wasting my time, another associate in her office stood up and got in my face, stating in a loud voice that "mistakes happen" (yeah, right) and that she was a good person for having apologized and that I should not have made "snide remarks" and that I should be "man enough" to accept her apology. Wish I had gotten this guy's name; is that any way to treat a customer? He wasn't inconvenienced, nor was Carol or Ron. I was the one who drove almost an hour each way to find that the "promotion" was a complete misrepresentation.
