The good: · Hackettstown Honda had a great selection of vehicles available to choose from and test drive. · The vehicle I was interested in 2011 Kia Sorrento advertised on their website was available and as described · All the staff were friendly and helpful · Terri. C – Sales person, was excellent direct with no pressure sales and great follow up · The team worked to get financing for the vehicle under less than ideal circumstances · I left with a Kia Sorrento 2011 (not the one I originally picked) The bad: · I went to the dealership twice, the first time I was there for 4 hours, and that’s test driving 1 vehicle (20min), which I knew I wanted from research online common at most dealerships. · I had a vehicle trade which they offered the minimum for, did not attempt to negotiate that at all. I would be fine with that if they saw the vehicle first (that’s a clue that you are being low balled) not that I expected a lot for my 14 year old BMW · I was told at the table while drafting the paperwork that the best price was $13000, that was after dropping from $13500. That number was almost $1000 higher than what was advertised on the website. (The manager promptly fixed that when I called him later that day and honored the internet price) · Due to financial issues and financing approvals it took nearly 1 month to get clearance for financing(on my part), when I returned to pick-up the vehicle which I placed 1 $1000 deposit on, I found that it was gone! The manager offered me a similar one instead, not the color I wanted, not the same condition, higher miles. They kept me at the dealership another 3 hours to get the paperwork ready for signature. · The vehicle was not detailed, but after being there twice, already for 2.5 hours I had no desire to stay. (The manager gave me a rain check on the detailing) After all of that I was not compensated at all for my trouble, instead when I was offered the second vehicle the manager quoted a higher price Literally the same car, model, year, features but higher mileage! After refusing to take it for a higher price he gave me the same which I had previously, but then rolled in some GAP insurance into the car price. I saw the GAP at signing, which the finance guy claimed didn’t why it was there but he could remove it, but that meant spending another 1+ hour to draft up the adjusted paperwork. I accepted it but later had it changed dropping the price by another $850.00. Overall, a frustrating experience made bearable only by the kindness and professionalism of the sales woman Terri. Everyone else I met with felt like a car salesman (not necessarily a bad thing, just what I hate the most about buying cars). The techniques used at this dealership is straight out the handbook, from keeping you waiting so that you will sign anything to get it over, blind offers on trades, “stating this is the BEST price”, but a new one is the selling of a car I put a down payment on. At any point I could have walked away, but like many places I think they took advantage of a crappy financial situation that I had, maybe even equating poor finances to ignorance. I decided to move ahead since honestly I don’t have the patience for car buying, also I didn’t expect much better regardless of where I went.
