Very poor end result

What started out as a nice experience turned very sour within a week of purchasing the 2005 Silver Ford 500. We made the purchases for my 16 y/o son’s first car and we were happy with the prices and efficiency of the initial transaction. We didn’t pick the car up immediately because Matt indicated that “We do things the right way here” and they were going to do a full check of the car (safety, fluid’s, oil change, etc) and the car would be available for pick up a few days later. My wife picked up the car when ready got the registration and plates and got it inspected. In full dislocure, the car passed inspection. The next day we checked the oil, and it was down to the lower line on the dipstick. Clearly no oil change was done so she brought it to a quick change place. I received a call at work from my wife while they were changing the oil and the guy told here that the front brakes needed to be changed immediately because it is a safety issue. I proceeded to call Matt at Knockout Deals immediately and explained the situation. He stated that they would take care of the brakes and asked when I could bring it in. I told him we were leaving for vacation the next morning, but that we could drop it off that night and leave the keys for them, and pick the car up in a week when we got back. He said fine. On the way to Knockout deals I filled the cars tank with gas because we were low (just under $40) my son followed me to the Knockout and we dropped the car off and left for vaca the next morning. We left Matt a voicemail when we returned the following Saturday evening that we needed the car Sunday morning and were going to pick the car up that night with the second set of keys. My son and I got to Knockout, He started the car and waved me to come over to the car saying that I needed to see something. The car that was left with a full tank of gas was down to less than 1/8th of a tank and had 250 more miles on the car than we when we left it. Also- The brakes were clearly not done ( some squealing). I call Matt to find out what the heck was going on and Matt said there service team found nothing wrong with the brakes. I then asked him about the stolen gas and the 250 additional miles. He started saying that sometimes the mechanic has to drive for a while to see how the brakes are. Give me a break!! He then recanted saying that he didn’t have a good explanation for why that happened and that they were embarrassed that it happened. I asked Matt how they were going to rectify the situation. He stated they would compensate us for the gas, but that we would have pay for 50% of their cost for the brakes. I told him that is not what he agreed to do originally. I also told him the we have no idea who was taking the car that we just bought for joy rides totaling 250 miles. What were they doing with the car? Were they robbing a bank? Beating on the car? Drug deals? Who knows? I probably should fill out a police report. Given that Matt said that it was the service team that put all the miles on the car I asked Matt how he knew that they weren’t doing the same thing with other peoples purchased cars? I also told him that since they were the ones that did it, they should cover the full cost of the Gas and brakes and that he should strongly consider severing ties with a garage that would do this. To make a long story short, I escalated to the owner of Knockout Deals and there was no change in their position. Very unfortunate since Matt seems like a nice guy on the surface. What could easily have been a 5 Star review is a 1 star review because “they didn’t do things the right way here”. Phil Doherty
