Honda of Covington
Dealership Sales Review
I am not a rookie car buyer -- middle aged in fact. I have bought perhaps 8 or 9 cars as an adult. The experience I just had trying to buy a car at Honda of Covington stunned me. They treated me like an idoit. Perhaps I was/or still am.. as I allowed them to sucker me into staying on their lot for more than 90 minutes!!! As if that stall tactic would lure anyone into buying...it simply creates an adversarial atmosphere. I thought such childish sales techniques went out in the 80s. Really. The salesman was OK (or maybe he just played to role of "good cop"); but Larry the manager was absurd. I couldn't get a straight answer on their price for a used car. They did let me test drive it. I was ready to buy it. Told them that, I was even willing to pay cash. They still made me wait another half-hour for a price answer... and finally wrote out an offer sheet (couldn't just give me a straight verbal answer to a simple question: what does it cost?) NEWSFLASH: the price was about 10% less than invoice on a new car...and it had 30,000 miles on it over 18-24 months!!! Well, I must not realize how valuable used cars have become!!! Or, they played me as a sucker who had no idea of true car prices. How ridiculous! I also made the mistake of discussing a trade in. wow! They offered me 30% of the book value (Edmunds) for my current car. How insulting! Do people really give away that much value??? I expected to negotiate; but with that big of a spread, they clearly are just hawking to see who they can take advantage of. Shameful. I walked out. Best decision I made over the two hours spent there. I'm not mad (anymore). I just decided to post this info to help other potential shoppers save their time. Don't bother shopping there. No wonder they won't return e-mails or give prices over the phone. They would rather work you over with antiquated, sneaky-pressure, manipulative sales techniques in person. Wow, does anyone just sell cars anymore??? Now, I feel like we can't shop a Honda because our local dealership is so [violative content deleted].
