Dealership Sales Review

Disappointed and feeling of uncertainty for safety

I bought a 2011 Lifted Wrangler Unlimited, which I absolutely love by the way. That’s why it stinks to have to write this review. I’m used to service after the sale and feel this is definitely not an emphasis at Warsaw Autoplex. They sell lifted Jeeps and the lifts are installed by a contracted person not actually done through the dealerships service dept. Apparently the same guy does the Glenbrook Jeeps as well. Well, about a week after I bought my Jeep I found out that a sister Jeep to mine that was sold a few days before I bought mine, was back at the dealer for repairs due to a rear wheel falling off. I thought, “Holy cow, I hope nobody was hurt!” I only found out about the incident because I saw the damaged Jeep on a return trip to drop off the owner’s manual to my trade in. When hearing about what happened, a staffer was surprised that nobody had contacted me to tell me to check my lug nuts. Well one of the first things I did was hand torque the lugs the day I bought my Jeep so no worries. But in the process I found out that each of the 4 wheels had a damaged/ stripped lug nut that had to be forcibly removed. I decided to let the dealer know not only to see if they would make right on the lug nuts by chance, but to let them know their installer is doing not so good work and that my find might have something to do with the other Jeep losing its wheel. Much to my dismay I contacted my salesman, who was more than apologetic, but I stressed that he pass along my dissatisfaction to management because I felt that I could have been killed or injured if my wheels had loosened up and felt that they didn’t care about me after the papers were signed. My salesman passed along the message and nobody called me back to make right. He was surprised by this. Fast fwd a few more weeks and I hear a banging in the rear of the Jeep. The oversize spare tire had loosened up and was barely being held on by two bolts because their lift installer damaged a bolt and subsequently cut it off leaving an over hundred pound wheel hanging by only 2 bolts which had loosened up. Again, this could have fallen off my Jeep on the highway and killed someone and I would now be liable. Now I am really really mad at this point! I spent that day repairing the spare tire mount myself with new grade 8 bolts. I again told my salesman, who was again very sympathetic but I told him that management now had to do something and to let me know. He passed along the message. I again never heard from anybody. I tried to be more than understanding and give them more than enough opportunity to follow up with me. The faulty tire thing can go against buyer beware, but when these dealerships are subcontracting shoddy workmanship, I have completely lost any safe or confident feeling about a process that I would have normally preferred to do myself. This is exactly why I will never again buy a lifted vehicle from a dealer who moves them on a regular basis, nor recommend anybody else buy one because the risk isn’t worth the reward. I was completely forgotten about once I left the dealer. They better hope something worse doesn’t happen because a serious lawsuit could come from a serious accident from a faulty lift installation. I originally felt compelled to have dialogue with them because I wanted to be helpful and insure nobody else bought faulty lifted Jeeps from them. But the subsequent ignoring of my repeated contact took this to a whole different level of disappointment. Buyers beware. Buyers be safe. Do not buy modified Jeeps from dealers. Especially this one.
