Honor what you say!!

4-13-09 I called Glenbrook Dodge inquiring about a vehicle that was listed on the interent. When I talked to a female inquiring about the milage and price (offer stated to contact dealer for mileage and price) on a Dodge Dakota PU Truck, she advised she would check. When she came back on the line she advised that she could not find the price however gave me the mileage and would get back ahold of me when she found out the price. Just before I hung up she said that her manager had just walked in the office and he could give the price, she put me on hold again then came back and gave a price of between $6,000 - $7,000, she did not offer a solid price. I then asked if the advertised special in the newspaper would be honored on this vehicle and she advised that it would due to the vehicle was listed over $5000.00. I then inquired how long the push it - drag it special was in affect and she advised that it ended today. I had to work 2nd shift, however I called and got the day off so I could drive to Ft. Wayne and make the deal. After taking the day off I called Glenbrook Dodge back and inquired about the truck, this time I talked with another lady. She stated that she had just started work and wanted to check about the truck, she put me on hold then when she came back she stated that she would have to call me with the information however just before hanging up she said the manager had just came into the office and she could get me the price. Again was given the price however this time they wanted a name so they could expect my arrival. I gave my name and advised I would be there in approximately an hour. I inquired about the price and trade, this time I asked if I traveled to Ft. Wayne the difference would be $3000 - $4000, I was advised that it would. When I arrived and was looking at the truck I was approached by a salesman. I told him about the conversation on the phone and wanted to look at the truck. The salesman went inside to get the keys and when he came back out he said that the people on the phone must had been mistaken about the truck, it must have been a different truck they had given a price for, this truck was listed for $8,900. I told him that they were not mistaken due to I was specific about the truck and they had even given me the exact mileage that was on the truck, along with make and model (Blue 2002 Dodge Dakota Quad cab with 102,xxx miles.) The salesman stated that he would due some checking however wanted me to drive the truck, which I did. After we got back the salesman stated that he would try to honor the deal that was told to me on the phone, he said he would write the deal up as $4,000 with the trade of $3,000 trade as offered in the paper. He came back after talking with his manager, and stated that the manager was not willing to make the deal. I asked about calling the manager that told me over the phone the price of the truck (Kevin), which he did. When I talked to Kevin, he advised that he remembers me calling and making the appointment however said that the truck was in the wholesale lot and the vehicles that are in the wholesale lot were not part of the trade offer of $3,000 trade on any vehicle over $5,000. I told them that there was no mention of this when I called, nor does this say anything about this in the newspaper offer. The ad says ANY vehicle, see ad in Ft Wayne Journal Gazette 4-11-09, on back page of 2 sections in the Journal. There was several attemts to have me pay more for the truck or look at other vehicles on the lot, however at that point I was done. My question is; is this common practice...ploy... to tell a customer a price on the phone to get them to come to the dealership, then change the price when the customer arrives? The kicker is that I am a repeat customer with Glenbrook Dodge Chrysler Jeep of Ft. Wayne and felt I was treated wrong when the dealership would not honor the deal that was given.
