Failed transmission after 5 weeks
Written by 09/03/2015
onJust purchased a new Jeep from Troncalli 5 weeks ago. Check engine light came on yesterday. Took it in and turns out it needs a new transmission after just 5 weeks! Anybody want to buy a car with a replaced transmission? Me either. Funny part is that they don't want to provide similar transportation while I deal with Chrysler directly since they can't and won't replace the car. Oh ya, when asked about reported transmission problems during the sale I was told, "Small computer glitch thats all fixed". Just my experience to date. More to come I'm sure. If I were doing it all over again, without a doubt I'd opt for an alternative car and dealer!

Dealer Response
Mr. Bureau, I appreciate your frustration regarding the transmission on the Cherokee. However, I need to inform you of factual data regarding your options. First, it is 100% covered under the factory warranty which includes alternative transportation. Second, we have a transmission in stock today which we can allocate to your vehicle without having to order one and wait. If another customer has a similar issue and you do not authorize the repair, this could delay us if we have to order another transmission. Third, replacing a transmission or doing any type of warranty repair does not affect the value of your vehicle in a negative manner. I do not know where this information came from, but it is 100% inaccurate and untrue. The only event that would affect a trade in negatively would be physical damage above minor repairs your Cherokee may receive in an accident. Replacing parts under warranty in no way causes financial depreciation on your vehicle especially when they are performed by a factory authorized dealer using factory parts. As a veteran in this business since 1983, I have never appraised a trade in and reduced its value because of it having an engine or transmission replaced. I will however, reduce a trade value if it A) needs mechanical repairs, or B) has a CarFax report that shows prior moderate or severe damage, or currently needs body repairs. Fourth, as the manufacturer warranties all new vehicles, we cannot replace the vehicle or write you a check for $3000.00 as you requested. As you will suffer absolutely ZERO reduction in value with a new transmission, there is no grounds to ask for financial compensation from Chrysler or our dealership. Since you hung up on me in anger, I have instructed our service team to not repair the Cherokee based on your request that cannot be met. I do suggest that you call or e-mail me or Chris Pierce and authorize the repair so we can 1) provide you with alternative transportation, and 2) repair the Cherokee in a reasonable amount of time as we do have a transmission available today. I can guarantee you that replacing the transmission WILL NOT reduce the current market value of your car now or in the future. I look forward to hearing from you soon. Sincerely, Clifford Rudd General Manager Troncalli Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram 818 Atlanta Hwy Cumming, GA 30040 678-244-4100
