Vehicle purchase
Written by DHardison on 04/28/2023

First I have purchased 4 vehicles from AutoNation. And this time was the worst of all. I made the deal on April 5, 2023 to purchase a 2018 Tahoe that was located in Texas. I have done this before and paid $1750 to transport it to Georgia on a tractor trailer, this time it was $1700 for transportation, which was someone going out there and driving it back, 740 miles! I was using Kinetic Credit Union to purchase the vehicle, and had to redo all the paperwork since driving it here added miles to it. I was getting the runaround about when it was going to be delivered. I called the dealership in Texas myself to get an update. Was told by the service advisor that it was going through service and getting new tires and new brakes. She also told me that it had a “suspension issue that they were looking at”. Which I found out later that the service department declined to make the repairs. When I talked to the sales manager about this issue, he informed me that “he could not legally sell me a vehicle if it had any safety issues”. He said sometime a mechanic will write something up but after further review, they find it not an issue. Finally the vehicle arrived on April 14, 2023. I went and looked at it and drove it. Called my wife to come get her new vehicle. We left the dealership at 1730 on the 14th, we drove half a mile down the road to eat dinner. My wife left the restaurant around 1845, she drove about 20 miles and called me and said a “warning light” was on the display screen, which said “Service Suspension System”! I had her send me a picture of it and immediately sent it to the salesman and called him. He said he would get with them tomorrow and call me back. He called me on Saturday 4/15 and asked if we could bring the vehicle in? I told him I was busy that day but would bring it up there on Sunday 4/16 evening. He called me Monday afternoon and told me that the strut was bad. He also said I could come get it and drive it until the part came in. I called numerous times checking on it and got nothing but the runaround. Was told, waiting for the deal to go through, then waiting for “warranty” approval, to which I don’t understand, being that it happened 20 miles down the road the day I picked it up. Two weeks have gone by and still no update on the repair and no parts have been ordered. I received a text from the dealership today, 4/28/23, asking if I could bring the vehicle “back” in for a “new diagnostic recheck”? I asked if they thought the vehicle had fixed itself over the last two weeks. They said that the mechanic that originally checked it was out sick for a while and that nothing was but in the system after the first check, so they needed to recheck it. This is getting a little ridiculous! After having an issue 20 miles from the dealership on the night I picked it up, there should not have been any decision that needed to be made! They should have ordered the parts on 4/17 and fixed the vehicle. My wife hasn’t had the opportunity to enjoy her new vehicle because of this issue. She dove it around on 4/22/23 and the service light came on twice. She doesn’t want something to happen to it that would cause her to lose control of the vehicle or cause more needed repairs to be made and take even longer! I have talked to several managers up there about this issue and have even asked to speak with the GM, Ken McSpadden, but I haven’t been able to speak to him and just continue to get the runaround! I don’t feel that this is a salesman problem, I feel this is a management problem.
