Dealership Sales Review
My aunt went to look at a 2014 Altima. She informed the salesman she wanted the car but would not be able to purchase until I reviewed the contract. He called me and after some haggling we all agreed on a possible deal as long as she could leave and allow me to review contract overnight. He wanted to know why she couldn't sign right then. I explained to him that she had been ripped off in the past and did not understand all the wording and numbers in a contract and gave him some examples of people taking advantage of her in the past. He told me not to worry that he would treat her like his own grandmother. She and I spoke again on the phone and she agreed to leave right then. My aunt then asked for her papers that she brought with her , repeatedly for more than an hour. He would only continue to try to sell the vehicle to her, asking what he had to do to get her to sign right then. She expressed that she wasn't completely sure about the Altima and he got her to look at a Rogue instead. At some point my aunt was offered a 2 year service agreement . It was explained to her as free oil changes from the dealership, which she ended up paying over $600 for. They ended up giving her about $2500 less for her trade in than the lowest trade in value I could find. They charged her full retail price on the Rogue. So instead of starting out about $2000 upside down(because of her trade in) , she ended up financing around $7500 over msrp. I called the next day asking why they had gone ahead and wore her down and pressured the deal. The sales manager assured me they had used no high pressure sales techniques and any conversation we had about her ability to navigate a contract didn't matter because she was a competent adult and bound by her new contract.
