Dealership Sales Review

Pleasant experience until receiving the key
Written by Jared on 03/25/2019

I just purchased a certified pre-owned lexus 2 days ago. I had a pretty pleasant experience checking over the car and having the staff keep in touch with me. It was a simple deal as I knew the exact car I was coming to look for. I found the car on my own on the lot and just needed someone to take me for a test drive and answer a few simple questions. I was a super simple customer. Upon spending a few hours at the dealership purchasing the vehicle (which is usually expected), I was handed the key (singular) to the car. I was then standing 5 feet from the car when I was told the car only comes with 1 key because the previous owner did not turn in the other. It was a leased vehicle. It was a bit discouraging to have paid for the car and traded in my car to then be told as I am 3 minutes from driving away that I am receiving 1 key. Who expects to receive only 1 key when purchasing a vehicle these days? No fault to the dealership that they only received 1 but it DEFINITELY should have been brought up when even thinking of the purchase. I drove the car home not 5 miles away feeling a bit jipped. Maybe if it had been discussed earlier that wouldn't have felt so bad or discussed about including an additional key in the price but I wasn't informed until handed the key to leave. Then, to also hear that the previous owner would have to pay for the key in his lease made it feel worse. If the misplaced key is being paid for, why shouldn't I be receiving a second? I got home and began looking over the car and all the new technology and features inside. I then came to find the pressure for all tires should be at 36. I found every tire to be different 36, 37, 46 and the highest at 52! That is 16 lbs over the recommended! I corrected the tires at that time. As i was correcting the tire pressure I noticed 1 stem cap missing, 2 were the same, and 1 was completely different. They were mis-matched. Again, no big deal seeing as it's just the stem caps. I had my mother look at the car and she wiped the dash and wouldn't you know, it was a bunch of dust, so I then noticed it hadn't been wiped down inside. The interior is in great condition don't get me wrong, but I would have expected it to be cleaned out. I purchased my previous car at a different Lexus for 1/3 the price and received all the keys, and saw that it was being washed and waxed just before walking out. I took my new purchased car on a trip the next morning (yesterday) where I could get it on the express way. I got it up to 65-70 mph and noticed it had a pull to the right. Now here still 24 hours into purchase, I know I have to take it back to be aligned because its pulling. This is another Saturday going back to the dealer in my case. This was an inspected and certified car, I wouldn't think I have to be already planning a trip back within 48 hours of purchase. I bought all the extra warranty for the car because I wanted a piece of mind; extended warranty, wheels and rim warranty, you name it, for that piece of mind. I was expecting a call come Monday morning (today) regarding an extra key... I then got hit with "an additional key will be $250.00". Not what I want to hear after just spending MANY of thousands of dollars on the car. I feel owed at this point at least an extra key after my purchase. The manager called me back later to see what he can do... I was told he would call me back shortly and I waited... I received a call from the sales person again saying best they can do is $180.00 and a tank of gas. No offense but I haven't even used a tank of gas yet and the $30.00 is way off from now $180.00. I am never one to complain but after treating myself to something like this for the first time in life I was hoping for things to be simple. With the calls I have received back I have since felt some frustration from the sales representative as he has talked over me a number of times during our conversation. I requested to speak to anyone higher than his manager (more than once) and never received a name or a number. Maybe he is unable to have authority over the situation but maybe someone higher up can assist me better. Our call ended with him saying to contact him back when I want to schedule an alignment and a time for his key guy to set me up a new key in which I would still be paying for. He actually dropped the call on me at that point. I am not being difficult or unreasonable here, I work customer service and am yelled at frequently so I treat anyone with respect when speaking to them. Things went from a great experience to now being aggravated and frustrated. I do not feel I am being unreasonable here as I am just am looking to have what I paid for. Unfortunately my experience seems to be getting worse with each interaction. I am hoping to have a manager contact me regarding the experience and hope to turn things around.
