Dealership Sales Review
We went to this dealership to test drive a car. The sales person brought a car meeting our specifications to test drive. We liked the vehicle very much and returned to sit down and talk numbers. Prior to doing so, we specifically said that we didn't want to do the usual "dance" regarding price. We asked for the bottom line price with the understanding that we would be checking other dealers for their prices. The salesperson came back to us with a price that we felt was fair and decided to begin the process of signing papers to place an order. After this process was well underway, he returned with a "manager" who said there had been a "mistake". He said that the price we had been quoted did not include several of the features that were on the car we had driven. He told us that he could get another car for us at that price without those features. We were very angry and said as much. We drove the car. We discussed the car as it was and it was more than clear that this was the car we had asked for a price quote on. The "manger" gave us prices to add the features already present on the car. We attempted to negotiate/arugue the prices since they didn't seem at all consistent with the prices we had seen on Toyota's main website. There was a lot of back and forth between the salesman and the manager. When we became somewhat reconciled to these changes, the manager returned to say that the price he quoted on one of the features wasn't accurate. When we argued this he said that he gave the price "off the top of his head". We found this completely ridiculous! We were signing papers to buy a car. Did he think we were asking for imaginary prices? All in all we spent more than 3 hours at the dealership and really felt "worked over". This was in no way a comfortable, straighforward process as it should have been. By the next day we had a quote on the very same vehicle, configured in the same way for 800 dollars less at another dealer. The process was simple, and straigtforward. We decided to purchase the car at this other dealership and to cancel our order at Toyota of Wallingford and get our deposit back. I went to the dealership to do just that and was kept waiting for nearly an hour, just to get my money back. To add insult to injury, another manager then asked what he could do to make things right. Now he was willing to work with us? It was simply insulting. Not only will we never again seek to purchase a vehicle from this dealership, we will no longer patronize them for service either. Stay away! If we could give less than one star we would!
