Middletown Toyota
Dealership Sales Review
I received email follow-ups from four dealers. Middletown, from whom I had purchased my previous two cars, was the first to respond and the lowest-priced (a bit below Edmunds' target price, about $1900 below sticker). They initially gave a low offer on my trade-in, but bargained up over $1000, within $500 of my goal. It was very easy, no pressure, no hassles, dealing with Heather Katuzny, their internet sales person. They had to do a swap with a dealer 200 miles away to get exactly what I wanted, but it went quickly. The only reason I give 4 stars rather than 5 is that when I came to sign papers, they had put an extended warranty in -- something that had been shown to me but which I had not agreed to. When I caught it, the finance person apologized and took it out. Their price on that was actually above that listed at the Toyota site, and way more than one can get it for from some dealers. But I'll assume that putting it into the contract was a mistake rather than a trick. Love the new car, and it was about the simplest buying experience I've had. Doing my research at Edmunds and other sites helped a lot, of course, in knowing what to pay and what to ask for my trade. I'm sorry to see that other people have had such bad experiences. They treated me much better than another dealer who gets higher ratings on this site -- they were constantly sending emails that looked automatically generated, didn't quote a price until I asked, and left several phone messages in spite of my asking for email only. Middletown was all business, and quite straightforward and reasonable. Maybe it is a matter of getting the right salesperson. Heather, who gets the internet requests, seemed great.
