Lia Hyundai of Enfield
Dealership Sales Review
On July 19th I went in search of a used 4dr sedan at Lia Hyundai in Enfield. I returned on the 20th to discuss my options. I thought things were going well after looking at a few different cars. Lia Hyundai had a car just come in that they were going through inspections on and told me it would be a certified used car. When I returned there for the third time on July 22nd to close the deal on the car (in which I was told it would be the same price as the one I test drove) everything changed. Now the car was more expensive. When I told them it was my final offer then all of a sudden theyre telling me, Maybe we should look at another car. Lia Hyundai offered a slightly smaller version of what I was asking in which I thought would be okay but then they offered me the cheapest car on the lot (a 2 door hatchback). Thats when I walked out. Shortly after leaving I received a phone call informing me that suddenly they were able to get more for my trade-in and Lia Hyundai would accept my offer if I came back right away. I asked if the car was going to be certified and they said yes. Lia Hyundai told me the car would also have brand new tires and brakes. So I said okay and returned. I actually started getting excited about the car. I was more excited when I finally left there on July 25th with the car but that was short lived. Lia Hyundai neglected to tell me that I would not be getting a key fob with the car until I was there signing papers and walking out the door. When I asked why I would not be getting a fob they told me that the car didnt come in with one so they didnt have one to give me. What good is a security system if you cant activate or deactivate the alarm without using the key? I told Lia Hyundai that for the year of the car (2011) the key fob came standard with two but according to Lia Hyundai there was nothing they could do about it. So I inquired about ordering one through the dealership. Lia Hyundai told me that they could not order one but they suggested that I go to a third party down the road and mention their name and they would give me a good price. I went to the third party and asked for pricing. They were willing to do it for $150.00 (The price for a complete new keyless entry system). I called another Hyundai dealership and they informed me they could order a key fob for me and that I could order it through any of their dealerships. Now as promised the tires were done but only the front brakes were done. As something didnt feel right I brought the car to a mechanic and asked them to take the car for a test drive shortly. They confirmed that the rear brakes were grinding and need to be replaced and that this is a safety issue. I returned to Lia Hyundai on Monday July 29th and questioned them why the brakes were not being fixed and why was it that I could get a key fob ordered through any other Hyundai dealer but not this one. Lia Hyundai stumbled and said Who told you this? We can get you one. I will get you one at dealer cost. Lia Hyundai then had the service manager look at the brakes but all he did was pull the tire off, measure the brake pad thickness and said they were fine. He did note that there was a bit of surface rust on the rotor and after a week it should go away. I turned to the service manager and told him he should really take it for a ride and it was not just the brake pads. He said trust me if its not gone in a week then bring it back. After not hearing anything more about the key fob by Saturday August 3rd I decided I was going to go back to the dealership and fight again to get the brakes fix and fight for the key fob. That morning I happened to be cleaning my window when it dawned on me to look for the VIN etching I paid $159.00 for. Nowhere on any window was there any etching. When I demanded that the brakes be taken care of and asked the status about the key fob. I then questioned them about the VIN etching and they asked me, Did you pay for it? I said, Yes and ask them if they want to see the invoice? (That they automatically put it on even though it says optional). They never replied to that question. Lia Hyundai then treated me like I'm completely stupid. The salesmen points to the VIN plate on the dashboard and say "Well isn't that it?" I explained to him that what he was pointing at was the manufacturers VIN plate and that was not etching! I have to wonder how many unknowing or naive people actually fall for their tricks. If someone didnt know better they would have paid $159.00 for nothing. I have been nothing but completely insulted and lied to and my whole experience of being excited about buying a newer car has been completely demolished. I didn't even get a spare key. The cost of a spare key is $150 +. I had to fight for everything. Never again!
