Dealership Sales Review

2 out of 5 starssales Rating
Good service, opportunistic and predatory sales

Likes - Service has been very good, prompt and professional. Comfortable waiting area. Have had lease and warranty service since leasing then buying the leased 2021 Toyota Venza. I purchased the vehicle through corporate Toyota rather than going to Right Toyota. I love the Venza and have had excellent experience with many Toyota products. Working with Toyota corporate to buy the car was very easy. Dislikes - My wife and I had gone to one of Right Toyota's sales gimmicks where we turned in a card to see what we won. Of course, we won a nominal gift, but this gave the sales staff opportunity to see if they could persuade us to purchase/lease a new car. We had a 2016 Rav4, purchased from Right Toyota in 2016, that was an excellent vehicle, but my wife did not really like the sporty ride. So after explaining what we were interested in, (i.e. hybrid, softer ride, options, including rear cross traffic alert (rcta),...etc.) they showed me a new Venza. It seemed a good deal so we leased the car drove off the lot. However, we immediately noticed on that very day that cars and people would go behind the Venza but it did not alert the driver. I told them that this is simply unacceptable. We even demonstrated this failure to one salesman who would not even acknowledge what he had just witnessed. He kept claiming that the rcta was working as intended. I was then brought to another salesman who called me a liar when I related the story to him. When I maintained that the operation of the rcta was unacceptable, they said that to achieve what I wanted I need parking assist which did not exist on the car I just leased. Well, too bad for us. We asked if we could have our Rav4 back. Our Rav4 was placed on the lot for sale for $18K (they gave me $14K in trade-in). At this point I have not even put in 100 miles in the car, but of course, they were not interested in really giving me a reasonable deal. I even contacted other Toyota dealerships to see if there was some way to trade the newly leased car for one that we really wanted. I was in a very adversarial relationship with sales. Finally I contacted the Right Toyota General Manager who, I think, instructed the sales team to "work this out". Well after continuing to skin me alive they did come up with a car with parking assist that when paired with Toyota rcta really does warn the driver if people are walking in back and front of the car, and really does alert of all immediate traffic behind the vehicle. They found another 2021 Venza that met all our initial requirements, meaning that the parking assist was on the car. I payed through the nose for this vehicle and endured insults and complete indifference to my stated needs. Nevertheless, I got a great car! Bottom Line: We bought the 2016 Rav4 and had no issues. The 2021 Venza was painful and horribly expensive (as far as I can tell we basically gave Right Toyota our 2016 Rav4). I felt as I had be skinned alive. Most likely a person that goes to Right Toyota knowing exactly what they need and what options are required to fill those needs will have no problem. I, however, simply do not trust the sales team at Right Toyota.
