Dealership Sales Review

AutoNation Reputation -- Not What I Expected
Written by RBHansill on 11/28/2020

I had a deal with salesman Harvey Morrison on 9/27/20 for $82,500 (out the door with tax, tag, title). I told him I needed to discuss it with my wife. I called back on 10/5/20 and found that Harvey no longer worked there. That's the first sign of bad-business. Mr. Tim Johnson took over my sale since Harvey abruptly "left" the company. The manager didn't honor that deal I had with Harvey and stood firm on $83K. I gave Tim my credit card to hold the truck until they shipped it from Texas. I was told by the GM that it would not be charged the $5000 deposit. Their finance guy Nelson Bryant called on 10/7 and told me he was going to charge my card. I told him I could not use it again until the entire transaction went through. Nelson never called back to tell me otherwise. Tim said it wouldn't happen--another indicator of poor business. I was told earlier by Harvey that the truck could be delivered to me. Tim said it was company policy for me to do "paperwork" at the store and delivery was not an option. Tim said if I didn't get what I wanted for the trade, that he would drive my 2007 F250 back to my house. Tim told me about the Ford Heroes rebate and that I could apply that to the truck. He also told me that I would not have to pay the full amount of tax if I traded in my 2007 F250. I arrived on 10/16 to pick up my new truck (125 miles -- two hours). The GM introduced himself and said he'd give me the best deal on my trade-in. I agreed to $13,250 and reminded them I needed to get on the road back home (another two hour trip). The place wasn't busy and I assumed it would be quick. The finance guy Nelson Bryant took his time getting to me (about 50 minutes). He sighed with discontent three times when I refused to purchase his extended warranty and insisted he fix the price to reflect my original deal of $83K. Nelson called the GM over the loud speaker but received no response. Thirty minutes later he presented my documents to be signed electronically -- a task I could have done from any computer including the one at my home. I was escorted out the door by Tim and finally on my way home. NOTE THIS: AutoNation KEPT BOTH THE TAX AND MY $500 Ford Heroes REBATE! On 10/22 I received a call from USAA (my finance company) that they had yet to receive a legible copy of the sales documents despite phoning AutoNation several times. I called Tim Johnson to ask about the mistaken numbers and failure to complete a simple fax.Tim said he would check on it. I messaged Tim again on 11/2 about the same issues including the tag/title and the fact that I was also missing a 3" to 2" hitch adapter. Tim Johnson informed me that he had gotten into a verbal confrontation with Nelson Bryant, the finance guy, for mishandling another customer's deal and had been fired. Third sign of bad-business! NOTE THIS: I trusted Tim Johnson. He establish rapport and followed through with what he said he could do. Tim was the only guy at AutoNation that I trusted. I made the BIGGEST purchase of my life and have ABSOLUTELY NOBODY to reach back to for help or advice. AutoNation Ford basically took my hard-earned money and flushed our relationship down the toilet. Who do I call? Who is going to call me? Where did my rebate go? Why did AutoNation keep the extra tax money that I paid? Who will hold AutoNation accountable? What about little things like my hitch adapter? I am a life-long customer of Ford Motor Company. Don't let AutoNation diminish that!
