2013 Tesla Model S: Side-View Mirror Reflection

December 17, 2013

2013 Tesla Model S

When the sun is in just the right (wrong) position in the sky, our long-term 2013 Tesla Model S throws a big-time glare right in your face. The source? The flat, highly polished chrome-like arm that anchors the side-view mirror to the car. This is no little dazzle, either. It's really obnoxious. I noticed this on the return leg of my road trip as I was heading south on I-5.

Like the goofy door handles, this mirror-finished surface is one of those form-over-function gaffes that I suspect will go away in future Teslas as the new company figures out the right way to make cars.

I like that it is styled, maybe just change the finish to reduce the glare.

Other owners who share you opinion have deployed a very simple and cost effective solution. Just get the shiny chrome parts wrapped with matt black (or any other soothing color)

I just put camo tape on mine. It goes well with my NRA bumper sticker.

Try sunglasses. Reminds me of the fall and spring traffic jams around a known bend in the highway here. The traffic jams come from drivers that can't seem to figure out donning a pair of sunglasses, but theyrespond by jamming on the brakes, which then jams up traffic until the sun moves out of their line of sight. I hope you didn't start jamming on the brakes when you were flashed by your Tesla.
