2014 Mercedes-Benz CLA250: Tight Pedal Box

February 13, 2014

2014 Mercedes-Benz CLA250

Generally speaking, there are two types of drivers: those who pick their foot up to transfer from gas to brake, and those who pivot off of their heel to get from pedal to pedal.

I fall into the latter category and happen to wear a size 12. This isn't ideal with the CLA.

There's just not enough foot space in the pedal box. I alternate between thwacking the outside of my right foot against the hard, loud plastic that butts up against the gas pedal, and getting the left corner of my shoe trapped under the brake. It's not so bad as to interfere with the way either of the pedals work, but it is bad enough to be really, really annoying.

Never heard someone talk about whether a pedal box is pivot-friendly, but come to think of it, that would be awkward for me too. Brilliant.

    Totally agree with this.

Also a third type of driver who keeps a heel on one pedal while toes go to the other so the throttle can be blipped during braking while the other foot works the clutch.

stovt001, Yes, come to think of it, you're right. However, look at our clutch-less society today. I'm afraid we're hellbound. Very sad when cars like this are auto-only. I'll always regret not getting a last gen C Sport with the available manual when I had the momentary chance.

Space designed for 3 pedals, as all cars should be.

  • When did Mercedes stop using floor mounted accelerators?

@allthingshonda, The A-Class has always used a top-hinged pedal for some reason.

  • Forth type of Driver: Those that brake with the left foot when driving an automatic. Crowding the pedals to the right doesn't help at all.
