2014 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray: Reverse Tilt Mirrors

2014 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray

Our 2014 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray is a wide car, and it takes a little time to get a feel for where the car is, relative to parking space lines and distance from curbs. It's also a car with black painted wheels. The combination of the two had me spooked. I'm a member of Curbers Anonymous, although I have been scrape-free for more than a year.

The best thing for curbers like me is a side mirror that tilts down when the car is in reverse. Initially, I didn't think the Corvette had this feature, but when I was looking up something else in the surprisingly slim owner's manual, I discovered that the mirrors would indeed tilt. Hurray!

Within the Vehicle section of the Settings menu that displays on the nav/infotainment screen, there's a selection for reverse tilt mirrors. You can customize the mix you want, and most of my curb-rash worries are now a thing of the past.

But I still will go to meetings.

Another confirmed Edmunds autoscribe not reading the owner's manual and finding features by "accident."

Is there any way to change the setting besides navigating a bunch of menus? Personally I find the tilt a hindrance more than a help, in most circumstances (parallel parking being the key exception). BMW does this right...a toggle switch on the door turns the tilt on and off, so you can switch views during the parking event.

Agreed, I think. I generally hate this feature and turn it off whenever possible. But once in a great while I like it, and the buried nature of the toggle on this car is a PITA. Props for separate street and curbside settings. I do park parallel at home, so I might be more tolerant of it on that side.

@diigii: Second paragraph, read it: "I didn't think the Corvette had this feature, but when I was looking up something else in the surprisingly slim owner's manual, I discovered that the mirrors would indeed tilt. Hurray!"

  • This is when I hate multi-function menu based systems. On my Acura if you want the passenger mirror to tilt you switch the mirror control from neutral (middle) position to right if you want both to tilt you switch to the left. If you don't want them to tilt at all you leave it in the middle off position.
