2014 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray: Key Fob Slot

I noticed the 2014 C7 Corvette has this handy slot for its key fob hiding in the steering column. I'm the guy who always finds himself in the car with the fob still in his hand. Then it's a question of either trying to jam it in my pocket while seated or leave it lying in the cup holder. This beats the cup holder.

It's proximity based, right? If it is, shouldn't it just stay in your pocket? All my cars are low-tech, so pardon my ignorance.

  • I'm sure it's not intended for you to put it there all the time. It is probably the emergency back up slot in case the smart key battery is dead and the car does not recognize it. All automakers have this back up in some form. Nissan places it in the dash, Hyundai in the center console and Honda and Toyota require you to place the key right next to the start/stop button.
