Buyer Beware! Not buyer friendly
Written by 10/28/2011
onWith cash in hand, we went to Southern Oregon Subaru in Medford looking to buy. I had set my sights on an Outback V6 for 5 years. First I had emailed and phoned with about 3 salesmen at the dealership. NONE of them will want to give you an invoice price of their cars. They want you ON their lot. (I live out of town) AND they have dealer mark-up prices. Our experience at this dealership was beyond compare, the worst I have ever had in my 58 yrs!
Having driven both a Forester and Outback previously we decided upon the Outback. I told the salesman, John, that we're interested in the V6. He put us in a V4 for a test drive. John was the rudest salesman I've ever had the displeasure of meeting. During the drive he sat in back sounding like a 14 yr old know-it-all and couldn't come clean with point blank answers to most of our questions, nor show us an invoice. When I told him I didn't like dealer mark-up prices, he said "that's really moot, isn't it". Had it not been their car I would have dumped him on the side of the road! He tried to tell us that ALL foreign car sales use mark-up in his 18 yrs of selling. I found this NOT to be the case! Once back at the dealership I got our car and said we were DONE. I later received a call from another salesman, Tyler, who apologized for our treatment, but also didn't want to give an invoice price over the phone. He phoned us back shortly afterwards and said his boss would sell the Outback for xx amount of dollars, BUT, the price was only good for THAT day. This place applies pressure and gives little answers. We were going to take a long drive north to look at other Subaru dealers after this fiasco, but upon passing a Toyota dealership we saw a vehicle that caught our eye and exceeded what we liked about the Outback. At this Toyota they do NOT have dealer mark-ups. They were also more than happy to show actual invoices of any vehicle we wanted to see (which I did). The salesman didn't pull punches or cast a sales pitch, infact, he told us to 'think about it for awhile' if we wanted. NO pressure! This Toyota dealership was the best no hassle sales I'd ever had buying a car. Medford Subaru was by far the worst, and I've bought many many new and used cars! Beware.
