nick was very attentive

by gregkleemann on 09/16/2016

Hi, I have just purchased a 2017 Forester, and was lucky enough to have Nick as my salesmen. Nick was extremely knowledge in the vehicles he showed me and made selecting the model I wanted easy to choose. Nick took me for a test drive and demonstrated each feature of the vehicle making sure I understood each feature before I started to drive. He made asking questions fun and again explained everything in detail. Nick is number one in my book and I know he will also be number one in yours. Greg Kleemann

Great experience buying a great car!

by Outback_yep on 06/10/2016

We bought a new 2016 Outback from Southern Oregon Subaru last week with Nick Knutson as our sales rep. The whole process took about 6 weeks as we had a very specific color, trim and accessory combination that we wanted in our new Outback. Through the whole experience, Nick was the most responsive and professional sales rep that I've ever run across. From our first test drive, through a myriad of emails and phone calls during his search for our car, and finally to our vehicle delivery, he was a friendly wealth of information that helped get us into just the right car. He and Randy Crutchfield (the sales manager) even helped us arrange a private party sale of our old car that netted us way more than I thought we could get for it. As for the Outback itself, this is our family's third Subaru and we are once again totally impressed! The 2016 Outback limited is so well equipped and a joy to drive. I highly recommend Southern Oregon Subaru and Nick Knutson. It's great to have them here in the Rogue valley!

Great day!

by subarulover321 on 02/17/2016

Today has been one of the best days ever! I got a brand new hyper blue(love the color) Subaru crosstrek! We have had such a pleasant experience with Nick Knutson, he is the nicest young man and not pushy or condescending. He didn't run us around with the financing either. I didn't expect to drive home with a new car that night but we did and we are so happy and pleased. Thanks so much Nick! We will be recommending you and Southern Oregon Subaru to our friends and family.

really professional

by Pattywoodward on 09/01/2015

I went into this store incredibly concerned. I hate going into dealership. It is the worst. From the moment I shook hands with Nick Knutson the experience was relaxed and professional. We were looking for a used car and you never know what kind of problems you are going to inherit. Nick explained the process that their service department takes to ensure that the cars are mechanically healthy and clean. I got a beautiful used 2013 Outback. I was treated right and Nick worked hard to fit this vehicle into my budget!

Just purchased 2015 Limited Forester

by blarsen3 on 08/04/2015

I recently purchased a 2015 Forester and the service I received was absolutely fantastic. Im not from OR but they made the experience for an out of state purchaser simple and quick. I will definitely do bussiness again with them in the future.

[non-permissible content removed]

by cruiser35 on 11/03/2014

Going to SOSVM was a poor decision on our part. We were looking for a specific vehicle and I signed up for their alert on the website. I was promptly contacted stating they "had one just pull in" as a trade in. Sent a picture (of the good side) and it looked decent so we went in. Too bad the other side of the vehicle had $1k's worth of body damage. Somehow [non-permissible content removed] still got in in their little salesman jail cells and still wanted KBB value (and they put excellent condition on the KBB papers LOL). [non-permissible content removed]. But we were foolish and they called again. This time promising the next one wasn't crashed. It wasn't exactly what we wanted but we bought it anyways due to car buying/searching being a nightmare. As we were leaving the lot they gave us a gas card because the fuel gage shows empty. Got to the gas station and it was fuel. So we went back and told them what was up and they promised to fix it. Well it got fixed, 4 months later. In the end, after numerous unanswered phone calls, failed promises, put on hold forever, our "new" vehicle for a new instrument cluster. They knew it was a lemon as we were not allowed to even test drive it prior to purchase. And just so happens they said they forgot about the issue right after we signed the final paperwork. This place is an absolute filthy establishment. They do not care about the customer in any way... Just the commission they prey for and will do anything to get. Half of the lights on our "new" instrument cluster still doesn't work. We would rather it didn't work than have to go to this place ever again. I give the service dept a 3/10 because one guy was kinda nice and actually called back. I give the sales dept a 0/10. We learned a lot in this experience. I would recommend craigslist over southern oregon subaru.

Average experience

by dan356 on 09/27/2014

Glad I did not read the past reviews about this dealer before I bought. Probably never would have made the trip from Brookings.I quickly got an adjusted "internet price" for a used Outback on the phone, even though I was not impressed with the salesmans manner very much. He mis quoted a credit card requirement as well as a minor price fluctuation, but overall the price was within the margin, especially since it was in top shape, and had been bought and serviced there for years on a regular basis. Some Japanese cars do bring more over KBB because of the demand (paid too much for my T100. The "million mile truck" is hard to find) so overall I walked away with a fair enough deal. Also made a point to buy at the end of the month. I'll give SOS a C+. So sorry to see so many others get the bums rush!

Please don't even attempt to check this place out

by mohawk75 on 05/21/2014

After talking with these people for close to a year, and armed with research, I finally was at a point to go in person to talk to the sales people at Southern Oregon Subaru. Every unprofessional experience that I had asked the "salesperson" that I did not want to have happen, happened. They did not give a damn about what I was going through and made me sit in their "new remodeled" office for over two hours. I got up and left their office with no intention to return. This was well over a month ago, (April) Yesterday, May 20, 2014, my husband and I each received a letter from Southern Oregon Subaru that we are not qualified to be financed through them. I was pissed. I never had any intention of buying a vehicle through these unprofessional [non-permissible content removed]. I had received a text message two days after I left their dealership from one of the sales guys wanting to know what "my intentions are". I responded with a " Thank you", but we won't be back. My husband and I went to Cascade Subaru in Klamath Falls and got a much better deal on the same car saving us $6,000. I do believe that when I shared this with the sales guy at So Oregon Subaru, this group retaliated by sending a credit application with out our authorization to the three credit bureaus. Do not buy a car from [non-permissible content removed]. Save yourselves a bunch of runaround hassles and go elsewhere. Please.

Trend of Games

by only4ward on 08/07/2013

I can see that this dealership has more than a coincidental trend to play games with it's potential customers. I also went in intending to buy a new Outback but became frustrated with the fact that none of the cars had prices listed and the salesman wouldn't give me a price. I left and on another day I drove up to another dealership in Eugene where the price was clearly listed and the salesman answered my questions. This is 2013 people, these dealership games just don't cut it in this century. There has been more than one complaint here and probably many many more people who felt the same and didn't report and still this is the way they do business....no matter what their excuse...that says it all.

Nice sales person, but shady dealership

by KelHolDah on 06/08/2013

I recently contacted this dealer about a used Subaru. I told them I was looking for an Impreza, had a maximum budget of $17k. I talked to a sales person on the phone, who told me they had a '10 Impreza with 18k miles on it, that would "fit into my price range". I wasn't too fussed for more details, because I was planning on going out and test driving cars the next day, and told them I would swing by. When I got to the dealership, not a car had a price sticker on it. I met with the salesman I had spoke with on the phone, who was very pleasant, and he took me out to show me the car he told me about. Turned out it was a '11 (okay, cool, easy mistake) with 49k miles on it (uh, that's a bit of a leap from 18k). I again inquired about the price, to which he said "he would need to check on that". I decided to take a test drive anyways, and it was a nice little car. When we returned to the dealership, I asked about the price again. I was told "Well, I would need to go talk to someone about it. And they would probably tell you higher then your price range because that's their job." At that point I thanked him for his time and left.

Refused to ever give us the price

by notimpressed2 on 03/09/2013

We called about a price of a used vehicle shown on the website. The salesman said he had to check with the manager who was in a meeting, we were going to town anyway so we said we'd swing by. When we got there the salesman said he had been to busy to check and started the classic salesman games trying to get us to drive it and fall in love with it. We said we didn't want to drive it until we knew the price. He went in to get a price and came back with a friend who wouldn't tell us the price and tried to get us to drive it. We finally drove it and asked for the price, the answer was come inside and we'll run some numbers. We said we wanted to know the offered price before we sat down to talk and we were leaving if we didn't get a price. They said they'd get their manager. The manager came out and we asked the price. He asked us what we thought it was worth. We said we don't know that's why we're asking. He asked what we wanted to pay. We gave a low ball answer. He said we're too far apart and we left. Every person we spoke to refused to tell us the price of the vehicle. Here's the answer that was made ever so clear by their behavior. "The price of Southern Oregon Subaru's is as much as we can con, trick and manipulate you into paying." We already own one subaru, we did go on to buy another, and we have plans to trade on in for a new model later this year. Believe me when I say I will drive hundreds of miles to go to any other dealership than this one. Don't go here. Incidentally, it is very obvious that the positive reviews listed on this site were written by their salesmen.

Great start to finish

by avbooraem on 02/16/2013

I also went in prepared, and had a great experience. It felt like an equal partnership from the beginning. Bob A., sales rep, is a true gentleman: smart, knowledgeable, patient and thoughtful, and really knows how to build trust and follow through. Both sales and management worked hard to get me the car I wanted at a fair price, and bent over backwards to accommodate some of the issues involved in my living in California. That said, it was also up to me to be flexible. Just want to add, I'd read some of the negative reviews of this dealer, and told them so. They were very up front about what they're doing to improve the buying experience. This seems to me to be a well-run dealership that puts the customer first.

Insulting

by subman13 on 11/02/2012

Visited dealer in search of a specific model which the dealer did not have in stock. Test drove a similarly equipped model that the dealer offered to find. Having researched the desired model thoroughly, was insulted when the dealer offered to sell us a less desirable model for $4,000 over the MSRP for that vehicle because "they were in demand". Walked out and purchased the desired and "in demand" model from a different dealer for $1000 below MSRP without any hassles.

Had a different experience than most I read

by combattracker5 on 09/16/2012

It was fairly painless as I was specific about my demands and stuck to them.Peolpe were not happy. Invoice worked for me.I have never been able to do that at this delaer before, though tried several times over the years. Also I had never done a dealer swap for a new car, but the car was here the next day and in perfect condition for no extra. Only 4 stars because of past experiences there were not fruitful.

Awful buying experience.

by jacut1 on 07/16/2012

The worst car buying experiences I have had. I came in prepared with quotes from NADA, Edmunds, Kelly Blue Book and even an on line quote from thier Subaru site. Southern Oregon Subaru in Medford's price was $2000 plus over MSRP for the features I wanted... claiming a 'Market Value Adjustment'. The trade in price for my expensive vehicle was ridiculousouly low and they were reluctant to break down exactly what was the new vehicle price and the trade price. There was a total disregard for my time, I was there for 6 hours negotiating. I tried to walk away several times but was manipulated into staying (they had my car keys). I felt held hostage and being broken down into submission. Awful tactics. I negotiated a price with options later to find that they were not included in the sale. All the while being told that I was getting this incredible deal that I couldn't walk away from because they have put all this time in bending over backwards to get me this 'great deal'. I feel like a sucker. I hope I can enjoy this car without always thinking how abusive the process was and how much I was ripped off. South Oregon Subaru will never get my business again. You'd do best to travel to another dealership than to work with [non-permissible content removed].

Buyer Beware! Not buyer friendly

by vicki7 on 10/28/2011

With cash in hand, we went to Southern Oregon Subaru in Medford looking to buy. I had set my sights on an Outback V6 for 5 years. First I had emailed and phoned with about 3 salesmen at the dealership. NONE of them will want to give you an invoice price of their cars. They want you ON their lot. (I live out of town) AND they have dealer mark-up prices. Our experience at this dealership was beyond compare, the worst I have ever had in my 58 yrs! Having driven both a Forester and Outback previously we decided upon the Outback. I told the salesman, John, that we're interested in the V6. He put us in a V4 for a test drive. John was the rudest salesman I've ever had the displeasure of meeting. During the drive he sat in back sounding like a 14 yr old know-it-all and couldn't come clean with point blank answers to most of our questions, nor show us an invoice. When I told him I didn't like dealer mark-up prices, he said "that's really moot, isn't it". Had it not been their car I would have dumped him on the side of the road! He tried to tell us that ALL foreign car sales use mark-up in his 18 yrs of selling. I found this NOT to be the case! Once back at the dealership I got our car and said we were DONE. I later received a call from another salesman, Tyler, who apologized for our treatment, but also didn't want to give an invoice price over the phone. He phoned us back shortly afterwards and said his boss would sell the Outback for xx amount of dollars, BUT, the price was only good for THAT day. This place applies pressure and gives little answers. We were going to take a long drive north to look at other Subaru dealers after this fiasco, but upon passing a Toyota dealership we saw a vehicle that caught our eye and exceeded what we liked about the Outback. At this Toyota they do NOT have dealer mark-ups. They were also more than happy to show actual invoices of any vehicle we wanted to see (which I did). The salesman didn't pull punches or cast a sales pitch, infact, he told us to 'think about it for awhile' if we wanted. NO pressure! This Toyota dealership was the best no hassle sales I'd ever had buying a car. Medford Subaru was by far the worst, and I've bought many many new and used cars! Beware.

Perfect salesman and dealer

by ohpuck on 04/01/2011

I was looking for a car for over 5 months and had no luck finding a car in oregon and Arizona. On a weekend trip home to medford I spoke with Dave Skolnik at SOSVM and he not only helped me find my car but he did the one thing you never expect from a salesman, he let me look at the car without making me uncomfortable. He was the first out of 50 salesman who made me feel like I was getting a car I wanted for the right price for me. Not only that, he helped me complete the purchase in under two hours which helped me get home in time to make my flight back to Phoenix in time. I would recommend this dealer an salesman to anyone looking for a great car and experience. Thank you Dave and SOSVM!!!!
