They tried to bait &switch me
Written by batteryacd on 03/24/2009
I went in to purchase a used car, told them my monthly target range. The came back with 3.5 times the amount I was willing to pay. After 3 1/2 hours of absolute confusion, misdirection, and a few bait and switches that i did not fall for I walked out with a car knowing that I was paying 2 times what i asked to be put in, and was not happy. A week later they called me back, and told me to come in. After waiting for an hour in their lobby they tried another bait and switch, this time with the price, and apr. it went from the ridiculous 17.5% (12.3% more than my last car that cost more) to an astonishing 28%. They expected me to pay that, or fork over another $2,700. I told them that was not going to happen. They "refunded" me my initial payment, but I have to go back there to get it as they could not refund it that day. The really messed up thing is I was going to trade in my 99 maxima, and the were going to take it without telling me they were only going to pay me $10 dollars for it, luckily I got curious and asked what it was worth, and even though they told me I didnt want to know, I insisted on them answering me. If I had traded it in, I would now be out of a car completely, and I would only have 10 dollars from it to buy another one. They are heartless, cold, and do not care about the person they are putting into a car. All they want is your money.I refuse to give United Nissan any business, I would not recommend anyone even walk in to the place, they are fast talking, bait switching bastards with a smile on their face.

Please understand as a dealer we want to sell everyone the car they want at the payment they like. Unfortunately we do work for profit so we can only go so far. And we do not make credit decisions for the bank we work with assumptions to sell vehicles. So it sounds like you wanted more vehicle than the bank would finance and we tried to sell you a car we thought the bank would finance and you wanted more car than your position would allow. I guess I am challenged as we tried to guide you in the proper direction and that is not what you wanted so then we took a chance that you were right and we were wrong. OOPS we were right that does not make us bad just willing to put you in the car pay for gas have you drive our car the re-detail it and put gas in it again just for the chase to upset you. I think not we are a business triing to survive this economic time. If we can assist you in your automotive ventures we would be glad to.

I read reviews we always try to fix legitimate complaints. However, when you see people with poor credit scores are the only one complaining it does not seem fair to dealers. This complaint is about bait and switch. STOP it's about paying bills and income to debt ratios; if you don't pay your bills or have enough income for the loan you are looking to get the bank to approve and they turn you down or try and offer less car it's not the dealers fault." We can't fix that and WE WISH WE COULD"! Dealers sell cars and try to get them financed. In Vegas everyone wants the car today and NV allows dealers to deliver a car while you work on financing or negotiate with the banks. When you know your score is low don't try to buy too much car. Let the dealer guide you. Then your feelings will not be hurt. Advertizing is aimed at scores above 700 for payments and terms and it is explained at the bottom of each TV ad Take the time and read it. That's why it's there.

ok, so after having dealt with United Nissan, for the same bait and switch problem I decided to try and find some reviews to see if it was just me, or if it's happening to a lot of people. After reading the review above, all i can say is that you're a fool. You admit to walking "out with a car knowing that I was paying 2 times what i asked to be put in, and was not happy". Just cause you ask to be at a payment doesn't mean they HAVE to put you at that payment, they're there to sell a car, and as big a car as they can. They obviously did that, and you admit to willingly drive off in the car payment that you didn't like. That's not a bait and switch, that's a good salesman. If you didn't like the payment, then you should have just left. All that to say, you obviously don't know how to say no to a salesman. There also seems to be a lot missing from this story, a $10 trade on a 99 Nissan is either a joke, or the fact that you had one beat up miserable car that you're not telling us about. EVERY car dealership i've gone to (including United Nissan) will do an evaluation on your trade in, and at some point in time tell you what you're getting for it, i've never had to pry that info out of them like you claim to have done. This review just seems useless in the end. I'm not claiming that United is good by any stretch of the imagination, but don't use the above review as a reason to avoid them either. At the end of the day, it's a car dealership, and dealerships don't have the stereotype of being weasels without having to be weasels at some point in time. They're there to sell as much car as possible, and obviously they achieved that when someone leaves knowing that they're paying twice as much as they intended on paying.
