Crazy Experience, Please Read
Written by trucatfan on 10/17/2017
Please read. I just went through one of the most difficult purchasing experiences a person could imagine. In August I purchased my 5th vehicle from Davis-Moore in the last 10 years. A beautiful new Silverado High Country with everything I was looking for. The transaction was good, but upon further inspection I had concerns about how this particular vehicle was assembled. Over the next 7 weeks it spent 50% of the time in the shop, e-mails about repair strategies were abundant, and I spent several hours on the phone with GM prodding them for additional support. I even called several old friends that currently work for GM for assistance (Thanks guys!) as the GM customer support dept is at times, amazingly clueless. After a final trip through the body shop the word from GM was the truck was not repairable and they would be repurchasing it from me. This is the 5th Chevy truck I've owned, the 3rd new one since 2009, and the 1st I've had any problems with. Statistically, problems happen. Regardless, with the repurchase decision the clouds lifted- or so I thought The buyout offer I received from GM was not good. I countered with reasonable requests to protect my equity and prevent any monetary losses associated with purchasing a defective vehicle. GM declined to change their offer, so I declined their offer. Their response was to return it to the dealer to find a way to repair it. I contacted Mark Ouellette the General Manager for Sales, and Jeff Williams the Service Manager to advise them the repurchase failed and the truck would be returning. Neither they, nor I wanted that. Both Mark and Jeff were instrumental in trying to find a fix for the truck from day one. We didn't always agree on strategies for repair, but they always kept it high on the radar. When GM agreed to repurchase the truck there was a collective sigh of relief from Mark, Jeff, and myself. When it fell through, Mark jumped back into it to see if he could help. GM wouldn't budge for him either. In the end, Mark found a way to get me in a different truck, and out of this mess. During the course of finding a fix for the truck, I had sworn off of Davis-Moore, and at one point, GM all together. When GM agreed to repurchase the truck- I went shopping. I went and drove F150's, Toyotas, and GMC's for comparison. What caught my attention the most about visiting the other dealerships was the stark contrast in sales tactics and age of the workforce compared to Davis-Moore. It was easy to tell which ones have the higher turnover rates in employees. Their products are all good, but while sitting at the table and running numbers I kept thinking- "how would these guys react to a problem like the one on my Silverado?"€. Generally, not well was the answer in most cases. I'm just a single purchase, one more X for the month on the board. This experience was not resolved by the involvement of a large multi-billion dollar corporation that was concerned about how I felt. It was resolved by a little relationship established with a dealership combined with their integrity and commitment. Big AL, Mark Ouellette, Jeff Williams, Kurt Danielson¦. Thank you See you guys in a couple of years for #7 (with the wife's permission of course).
