Larry H. Miller Volkswagen Tucson
Dealership Sales Review
Larry H. Miller. Volkswagen - KEYFORKEY Event. I just wanted to share my experience with this promotion at this particular dealership. I received a mailing personalized for me. Normally I would have just tossed it as promotional junk mail, but what caught my attention was the following: "OUR GUARANTEE!! IF WE CAN'T LOWER YOUR PAYMENT, WE GUARANTEE TO MAKE YOUR NEXT TWO MONTH'S PAYHMENTS!! YOU CAN'T LOSE!!" So I'm thinking that's encouraging. So I open the mailing which is 4 8.5 x 11" pages. The next thing that catches my eye is an offer to go online and print out a voucher for up to $5K off MSRP, which I did and my voucher was for the $5K. So now I'm looking at this "GUARANTEE" and I'm thinking I'm walking in with basically a $5K down payment, so since I "CAN'T LOSE" I decide to take my 2014 Volkswagen Jetta purchased 10 months ago in and see if I get a new 2015 vehicle with lower payments or if I get to skip two months payments right around the holidays. This is a limited time Thursday to Monday event so I had a couple days to shop the inventory online prior to going to the dealership. After spending 4 hours of my time (which is valuable to me), they finally present me with an offer. The first issue is with the $5K voucher. When I was shopping the vehicles online prior to going to the dealership there was a rebate on the vehicles I was looking at of $2.5K. This is a rebate that they are giving to any "Joe Shmoe" who walks in off the street, but they are deducting that unrelated rebate from the $5K voucher, in reality only honoring $2.5K of the $5K voucher. The second issue, they've taken it upon themselves to apply the refund I would have received from the purchase of extended warranties to this offer. The third issue is regarding depreciation. I was under the impression that Volkswagens retained their value fairly well, I should have done more homework in this regard. COME TO FIND OUT MY VEHICLE HAS LOST $15k IN DEPRECIATION IN JUST 10 MONTHS. This is in what I would consider excellent condition. No stains or marks on the carpeting or upholstery, no dents or dings of any kind in the body, no issues with the paint job, etc. Bottom line with the offer is that they could lower my payments IF I could come up with an ADDITIONAL $3K to $5K down payment. Not having the additional down payment put the onus on me and was their "legal loop hole" for not having to pay the two month's car payment. Thought it may not seem like a lot to some people, after being "GUARANTEED I COULDN'T LOSE", I lost 4 hours of my time. I know, I know, my mistake was in thinking this was a reputable dealership and buying into the come on. I accept my mistake, but wanted to at least share my experience should anyone else be considering spending their time at the dealership based on this promotion. Eric J. Olivas
