2013 Porsche 911 Carrera Cabriolet: Fuel Economy Update for April

May 2, 2013

2013 Porsche 911 Carrera Cabriolet

With the last few tanks of our cross-country road trip figured in, our 2013 Porsche 911 has now bumped its lifetime fuel economy number up another notch. Unlike last month, however, this time it was a mere tenth of a mile per gallon, from 22.7 to 22.8.

One figure worth noting is the new range record set by Mike Magrath: 511.8 miles on one tank. That's a nice long run for a 350-horsepower sports car and it reaffirms our contention that the 911 is one of the best grand touring cars around. Comfortable seats, excellent visibility and enough range to go a whole day on two fillups? Doesn't get much better than that.

Ed Hellwig, Executive Editor @ 11,660 miles

Worst Fill MPG: 12.4
Best Fill MPG: 31.4
Average Lifetime MPG: 22.8
EPA MPG Rating (City/Highway/Combined): 20/28/23
Best Range: 511.8 miles
Current Odometer: 11,660 miles

Looks like you finally cleaned that thing. I've enjoyed your past month of updates from your ride across the county. However every time pics were posted of a dirty (neglected) 911, I would cringe. Such a worthy ride deserves to look its sharpest in its pics. That's just my opinion.

You have to give Porsche some major props for the kind of mileage you can get out of the 350hp 911. My lighter and less powerful '87 Mustang 5.0 never got close to that mileage even though it was only turning 2k rpms at 70. The rental AWD Escape 1.6 Ecoboost I drove for a few days on a run from Detroit to Philly and back only barely topped 25 once from its 180hp turbo 4 despite hours of flat turnpike travel.
