Mazda hasn't given up on its zoom-zoom philosophy. In fact, the automaker uses the first page of the CX-5's owner's manual to remind buyers of the importance of zoom-zoom.

Kinda cool.

That passage was nice but a little corny. However, If there's at least one positive thing you can say about Mazda is that they have stuck to that philosophy no matter what. It hasn't always worked for them, but they've stuck to their guns. I'm sure there's a life lesson in there somewhere.

drvtime, being part of Ford may have hamstrung their product development. But it remains to be seen whether Mazda can survive paying their own way. The deep pockets of Ford helped pay the bills.

Right, sometimes it's nice to have a wealthy benefactor. Although Ford seemed to let their foreign brands stagnate stylistically, I think the Mazda-Ford relationship ended up being beneficial to both companies through shared development costs. With Ford's partnership, Mazda gained the "zoom zoom" tag, developed the Miata, and introduced such models as the RX-8 and Mazdaspeed 3.
