Production Version of Scion iM Concept Bound for Showrooms in 2015

LOS ANGELES — A production version of the Scion iM Concept compact hatchback will arrive at Scion dealerships in 2015, Toyota announced at the 2014 Los Angeles Auto Show.

The five-door compact hatchback is expected to be priced under $20,000, although formal pricing has not been announced.

Details on the production version’s transmission, engine, technology and other details will be announced in 2015.

The production version of the iM will roll out at the 2015 New York Auto Show, along with another new Scion model, Toyota said.

“The two models we’re debuting in New York next spring are just the beginning for Scion,” said Scion Vice President Doug Murtha in a statement. “We plan to bring three new products in three years to our showrooms, offering a variety of exciting options for current and new Scion customers.”

The Scion iM will target a long list of vehicles, including the Ford Fiesta hatchback, Honda Fit, Kia Soul, Nissan Juke and Volkswagen GTI.

The “i” stands for individuality and a “good fit for customers’ income,” Toyota said. The “M” stands for modern and multifaceted.

Edmunds says: Scion has been languishing, but it appears that the product drought is about to end, which is good news for car shoppers looking for new alternatives in this compact class.
