2013 Cadillac ATS: Choose a Car for Me

September 19, 2013

2013 Cadillac ATS

Did you ever have someone else choose a car for you? A long time ago there was a game online called the Car-o-Scope. I think it was by the Car Talk guys.

You put in some information about the car you currently drive, then answer some personality questions and it chooses a car for you.

Back in the day, I think it was about 12 years ago, it chose for me a Cadillac Catera. I never would have considered that car for myself at the time. I had just bought my Acura Integra and was all about young and sporty.

But recently, some friends and I were sitting around choosing the perfect cars for each other. Old people do things like this for fun. And one of them blurted out, you're the perfect Cadillac person. Why is everyone trying to put me in a Caddy?

But now I'm starting to think maybe I should be driving a Cadillac. I've spent the last week in our long-term ATS and it was quite enjoyable.

Have you ever played a game like this?

The rational-decision-making-based-upon-weighing-my-needs-and-wants game??! Heck yeah, I play that game, like, all the time!

    Ah, the Caddy that Zigs.

  • To have people tell me what car to buy all I have to do is say "I'm thinking of getting a new car" and it instantly becomes "you should buy:" from everyone. It has always seemed so odd to me as there are so many things that are different between cars and what is important to different people. Yet so many people think they know exactly what is right for other people. I will sometimes say "if you are looking for a car like that, have you also looked at this one or this other one?"

  • A lot of people, especially "internet car enthusiasts", will just recommend what they would like to drive instead of what someone actually needs. "You need a cheap reliable sedan that won't cost you a lot of money? Get this 15 year old BMW, it has superior handling."

We only mention the ones we want without making suggestions, or want the car we drove in high school. If I recall from old blog posts you hover near 40, which isn't old. And the demographics for the ATS makes you a prime customer.

funny you mentioned the Catera, I spotted a 2001 in the newspaper yesterday, and that word has not been on my radar for at least 10 years. the fact I was reading the newspaper possibly means I would be in the XTS demographic (almost!)

Are you Jewish? NO, then a Caddy is not for you!

@Camrydriver: the flip side of that coin is all the non-car enthusiasts who do the same thing, except recommending the car they bought instead of what the other person wants or needs. I've experienced this more times than I can count: "You should buy

there is a guy i know who would say "im thinking about buying a car" but not tell us what it is and give us the most obscure hints like how many cup holders it has and me and my 2 friends would guess every car we could think of (or think of him buying) and he never told us we guessed it this guy is the biggest mustang guy that i have ever met and he ended up buying a brand new eclipse GT with the 6 speed manual (this was in 2006) we would have never guessed but he told us he could have afforded a GT but the 5.0 was right around the corner and he could never own a v6 mustang. he now drives a BRZ which i can't argue against buying one but this is the most die-hard mustang guy i have ever known who has owned like 5 mustangs before and has mustang rear seats off of a 65 for a couch. i don't thing car buying is a rational behavior anymore!

back to the catera i was seriously conidering buying a used one for pennies that ran good but before i could make an offer on it the vehicle was sold to somone else. from what i looked up although history wrote that vehicle off as a flop it turned out to be a VERY well built automobile and the engine was built like a tank (note the northstar v8 engines of the same era were not) plus rar wheel drive!(!!!!!) and not every catera built has been plasterd with chrome take away the chrome and the looks are not bad.

Have I ever played a game like that? Yeah, right here on! It's called My Car Match. Always directs me to a Kia product, though.
