Worst Car Buying Experience
Written by kcustance on 02/16/2015
My husband and I went to this dealership to buy a new car. Before we decided to make a purchase, we went in and the salesman offered us a price of 11k for the base model of the Nissan Versa Note, with my trade in of 2k. We were very pleased with this price. We went in again, ready to purchase a car. The salesman we talked to wasn't available, and although they called him to come in, he didn't show up for about five more hours. So, we spoke and worked with a different salesman. He was really nice, and seemed genuinely concerned about getting us what we needed. We started talking about getting the next model up - so long we could get it in the same price range. Then he started asking us about payments. I said well, if we keep it in the same price range, the payments should be the same - right? Anyhoo, he left us for about 4 1/2 hours at his desk, alone, while they "printed" something out. By this time, we were tired, anxious, and starving. We were not offered food or refreshments. There was no one else in the dealership buying cars that day. It was ridiculous. When we went into sign the loan - I tried reading through the paper work. The loan guy did not want to explain to us anything. I starting skimming as fast as I could, and felt my heart leap out of my chest when I saw "18,000" on the price. So I asked if that was the price BEFORE the trade in. "Nope," he said, "That's the price after the trade in. Sign here." to which he shoved a pen in my face. I shouldn't have signed - but I did. I tried justifying that the payments were the same, so whatever. But they extended our loan to 72 months, which is why the payments were the same. We left with the car feeling excited and disappointed. Over the next week, we received multiple phone calls from the dealership requesting information they "forgot" to ask us for. We had to run to the dealership, which was a half hour a way from our residence several times. Then about two weeks later we got letters saying we were NOT approved for our loan. So we called the salesman and asked if we needed to return the car. He said that we DID get approved and not to worry - to keep the car. Then we got a call a week later from a different loan guy saying the first loan guy left, and he's trying to finish our loan, and we need to RESEND all our information. He then said that he RAN OUR CREDIT to find us a better loan, and that we needed to come down to the dealership and resign. I told him it was illegal to do that with out our permission - and granted, I was upset - he did not handle the situation well at all. He continued to yell at me in response and say that it was not illegal, and that he could run our credit FIVE more times if "that's what we wanted". We went down to the dealership and said we wanted to return the car. He then said that our original loan hadn't gone through yet, and it was being processed THAT day and not to worry. We TOLD him that we were leaving that day for a vacation and we needed to know if the loan was yes or no, and that he did NOT have our permission to run our credit again. We are both college students, and had very little credit history to begin with. I also verified with him that they did NOT need any more information. So we went on vacation and put about 2k miles on the car. He called during our vacation and said they were STILL missing information. We talked to several family members, and all said to return the car and that they were trying to screw us over. SO we got back from vacation, and tried to return the car. We explained that we had a really awful experience and that we were done dealing with this dealership. We were calm. We did not yell. We just wanted to return the car. The loan guy got visibly upset, and then told us because of the miles we would have to pay 3k to return the car, and that they would only give me 1k for my trade in, even though they told us that we were going to get 2,500 for it. We were really, really upset. We explained that we tried to return the car before we left and they wouldn't let us - and he said that was crap, and that if we wanted, they could charge us 4 thousand dollars to return it. Seriously. He was so rude. We asked to speak to the GM, and he instead, called the GM on the phone and said that the GM felt the same as he did, that we had to pay the 3k. We looked over the contract we signed and realized there was nothing we could really do - so we just sent them the requested information and finished the loan. Seriously the worst dealership in the world. Their employees are very, very unprofessional, very rude, and very arrogant. Seriously made the car buying process so stressful and put me in tears. I wish we would have looked up reviews for this dealership before going there. Yelp gave them 2 stars. We figured because they were a Nissan dealership, and part of an automall, everything would be just fine. Unfortunately, we were very wrong. We will never be returning there, and we will be professing it on every review site we can, as well as contacting the Nissan company and letting them know how their employees treat their customers.
